Hi guys just a success story to cheer you up from all the doom and gloom there’s no one willing to take newbies on…
Handed my cv around got a call later that day for interview next morning and got offered a full time permanent contract with a well known company, free cpc trading and pretty decent wage packet to go alongside it.
His words are you are the future (I’m in my early 20’s) and we need to look after and nourish you.
Just keep at it guys something will come up, just be in right place at right time
Congrats fella. Reminds me of when i passed. I passed in 2008 bang smack in middle of recession. Not a job anywhere and only 2 or 3 on job websites even!!! was so dead even agencies wouldn`t put me on books without 2 years experiance
Put my shiny shoes on and a nice shirt and went knocking with a CV around local companies and at my 3rd yard had a coffee and chat with TM, went for a quick spin with him which I really screwed up cos
1/ had to ask him how to hitch a artic up (learnt in wagon and drag haha) and
2/ I`d never used a splitter with half gears (imagine my shock of it trying to grind into 1 high from 4 hahah)
Was sweating my nuts off after first 10 minutes. He talked to me understood i`d passed recently and i got my first full time driving job 3 days after passing my C+E I was at that company 5 years and loved it, even tho it was dirty flatout tipper work.
Always worth going knocking IMO and would recommend it to anyone
Well done - and thanks for posting another positive post.
There is no question that the job situation is getting considerably better. An agency we deal with told me yesterday they’d lost 15 of our drivers last year to Sports Direct when they gave them permanent contracts. A couple of those were Class 1 18 year olds.
Personally I’m bored with hearing that it’s hard to get a job. There’s work out there but you do have to get out and get it. It probably wont come looking for you.
As an aside, the money is also creeping up. Granted, not fast enough and (in some cases) it’s dreadful. But the signs are there.
There are official predictions of driver shortages come September - let’s wait and see.
