A lot has changed!

hi used to do austria and sourrounding countries with a company called leitner spedition in graz , loved the job , but it seems a lot has changed over the 15 odd years or so that i last was ‘’ over the water '. reading through the forums it kinda brings it all back  .

what with transit tax , forms , parking and alike , looking back i would do it all again but it seems its all a bit curtailed by the ‘’ FUN POLICE ‘’ regulations and such.

reading through the posts brought back the times spent in q’s , waiting to tipp , getting lost , running through germany at the weekend and wondering why i was the only truck not parked up   , jeez the only sat nav i had was a gid scoatish tongue in ma heed… anyways great to read all the stories and love the pics as well , will have to dig out some of mine to post up here , all the best guys and if anyone used to pull for leitner i would be glad to hear from you , regards , gadge

Welcome to Trucknet gadge.

Don’t know if you remember a guy called Graham Dunbar?
Graham ran a purple coloured MAN pulling for an Austrian company, the name of which escapes me,but apparently his mother-in-law was a family member of the company.
He used to load tyres for Ireland, but after a while returned to containers, subbying for Goodways out of Felixstowe.

I don’t know what ever happened to Graham,or even if he is still with us,he had a lot of problems healthwise.

If you did a lot of Vienna, what did you think of the fair? Did you ever park up there?
From what I remember it was about a mile square. Fairground stalls & rides, restaurants and bars everywhere. Different music playing as you walked round and always that hum of fairground engines running and kids screaming. And what about the “outside entertainment”? :unamused: My god, my eyes nearly fell out of my head the first time I saw that lot. :open_mouth: JESUS.  Free parking 15yrs ago, don’t know about now. I’ve not been there myself since about 1987 but doubt I will ever forget it.

I have parked at the fair a few years ago, but one of our trucks was out there last year and I told him where to park, thinking it would still be ok, but it has all changed now and you can’t park anywhere near, so he told me

I used to park in front of a large church just outside the centre of town with an Irish restaurant around the corner that would let me use their shower, happy days, but I haven’t been that way for about 5 or 6 years now

I can’t remember where I parked exactly, other than it was on the western side of the fair, about 150 meters away. In some warehouse/storage/open market type parking lanes. If there is no nearby parking anymore, I suppose it’s not worth checking out for the sake of passing an hour or two but if your weekended, what a way to spend the time. It’s the best place I can think of, off the top of my head anyway. I hope to get back there one day.
