Hi. I’ve an empty licence holder in my preserved lorry, would look much better with an A licence in it. Has anyone got one they can let me have or scan for me so I can make a forgery?
Bernard
Hiya if you look in the car mags theres a advert showing replica tax discs for sale. maybe they could make one for you,
this would perhaps open a new product for them.to be honest i’ve never thought of the idea, i think thats brilliant.

You can also buy replica tax discs at vintage shows like Gaydon John
But you might have given me an idea. I am sure I have a copy of Corel Pro somewhere.

After “O” licencing came in (a sad day!) I did keep the obsolete “A” licence discs off my motors but as in all things they were misplaced over the years to the point where I’d forgotten all about them, but this thread has reminded me,■■■■ it I would have gladly given an old disc to adorn the screen of a period motor !! Cheers Dennis.

Hiya it says in the chaps ad that he will fill in the discs with your no plate tax class and also the taxation area to make the disc authentic,
it said £11 for 3 discs…its a pity he can’t do this years discs for that price.

Thanks for your input boys. Barry, thanks for your kind offer, but I’ve only a humble 4 wheeler. Re: ebay, I thought I’d tried every possible search, but I looked a bit closer under “replica tax discs” and hidden away in one seller’s list is a replica 1941 “A” disc, my motor is 1938, so that’s just right. I was quite willing to make one, but hadn’t been able to find a pattern, I can remember them well as I grew up in a transport family, but by time I was old enough to get involved, the “O” licences had just come in. Now I’ve got something to look at, I think I’ll have a go. I’ve posted pictures of my motor before, but as proud owner for 42 years, make no apologies for showing her again!

Hullo Bernard,
What a fantastic looking lorry, a credit to you, you have every reason to be proud. In that earlier photo the lorry was still a nice looking thing., but just look at that roping, very neat and tidy but not a dolly in sight and both the front boxes and rear boxes seem to be lacking any sort of securement. Maybe it was just a pose for the photo eh ?

Yes, it was posed. The photograph was taken when she was new in 1938 for the firm who supplied her and built the body, to put in their portfolio. A copy hung on the wall of the owner’s office (behind the lorry in the picture), and another on the wall of the garage. I’m informed by a feller who was driver’s mate just after the war that the man posing with her is the farm mechanic, the driver must have been out when the photographer came, I think she was either just about to go out or just got back from market, hence not roped properly. As I’ve owned her for so long, I’ve been fortunate enough to talk to people who worked with her, and can confirm that’s a typical load (cut flowers)! By the way, she’s a rare survivor, never been restored, only maintained and repaired, the cab and body are the originals with minor repairs, 74 years old!

You must fetch her up to the Pickering Traction Engine Rally. She is a really lovely looking lorry.
Cheers, Archie.
