Ironically the ‘German economic miracle’ had more to do with the hidden trade barrier of Germans only buying German products and expecting everyone else to buy their’s and their more favourable terms for repayment of the post war economic aid plan.Which were conditional on Germany remaining in trade surplus.Rather than the idea of free markets which are in large part why we’re where we are now in having dismantled our industrial base in favour of importing stuff we can make for ourselves.On that note the early pre EEC membership 1970’s were actually as good as our economy ever got.
