A home from home...

Back in the day my old condo cabbed Volvo VN was a home from home ,tv/dvd fridge freezer microwave coffee maker and toaster blah blah , it was really comfortable .Nowadays it’s a torrid KW , with meals expensed ,tough life sometimes

If you are happy, that’s the most important thing. If I can get home I do, but if not, feet up, glass of wine/beer and watch the world go by.
Cheers

^^ This.

Depends what time I finish, if I’m going to have a lot of time off, I’d rather be home, but if it’s a short rest (or would be if I went home) then I’d rather stay in the truck.
I’ve stayed in the yard where it’s not worth me going home.

I’m ashamed to say that if that’s as good as it gets then how tragic. 24 hours before you parked up, on February 11th, I had a 4 course meal with wine and a good crack with French and Dutch drivers in Cambrai - all for about a tenner (no parking and I paid with a bank card not all this cash only rubbish you get in a layby caravan or steamed up portakabin somewhere in the UK).

Live a little why don’t you! Have a meal at a table for once lol!!

each to their own. I like the sound of the ops nighht out. Yours sounds tragic to me. Sitting with wagon drivers? God no. I’d rather eat my eyeballs, poached.

You see we all have different tastes. I like parking in the woods. Maybe 5 or miles from the road, yet others would cry all night if they were alone. Just because some of us can park up without other wagon drivers for company, we aren’t tragic.

I have to agree with happysack on this.

I don’t night out… but if I did, it would be as far away from other humans as possible.

Phew! No chance of bumping into you two then thank goodness! I asked an old driver what he thought had ruined the job and he thought about it for a bit and said ‘sleeper cabs. When they were introduced it ruined the social life’. I’m tempted to say that nowadays most drivers have so few social skills that they’re a godsend lol.

I’ve got plenty of social skills. Just choose not to mix with men who wear clogs and have wallet chains.

…just settling down for the night now after having just eaten me tea. Me wagon is quipped wi’ a microwave so had salmon fillets and green veg. Nowt special but by no means crap grub.
About to put a film on me “tablet” - I subscribe to netflix so have the choice of god knows how many films (some ARE gubbins).
Currently enjoying a plastic cup of cabsav…I’m not up till 7.15a.m. tomoz cos I’m only 20 mins from my one hit drop.
I could’ve made it home tonight but would’ve had to have left at 4.00a.m. To make it up to Preston for half seven. Instead I’m doing a night out for 30 quid and getting a lie in.
I know this post is a bit self indulgent but I would like to know if my mindset of being happy to do a night out over a night at home is a common attitude.
P.S. I’m happily married (it’s relevant to my question).

Wot?? You ain’t got room in the cab for one proper glass? How common…overall though the right decision I’d say!

David H, some people (actually, most people) prefer not to spend all of their free time with lorry drivers talking about all things lorry.

I’m guessing you’re the type of guy who likes a frilly curtain though?

I once went into Carnforth for a meal. Never again. Food was ok. Company was dire. Then had a pint in the bar. Minding my own business when a pollock driver started telling me about his day. That was the end for me.

Its been some time since I saw a wallet on a chain! Seeing as the Euro is basically the standard currency they’ve disappeared. Good luck with those nights out!

Thanks. Enjoy sniffing diesel fumes.
