At last, a Scania you can go to bed in, without having to reorganize the furniture.
Nice, but the fridge is set waaaay too far back to reach from the driver’s seat. Making trips back and forth in summer with muddy footware a PITA etc.
Now THAT is how trucks for trampers should be.
These days I make a judgement of a truck by the useful space of it’s cab interior, I couldn t give a toss what badge it has or if it is fast enough to get around my drops faster thus giving me more stress.
I think best cab I’ve had is the old Magnum, my present Renault hi cab is good also…but maybe not as good as that.
Oh and the XXL MAN and the old style Scania with the above windscreen bunk…I could go on.
I would love a go as I have said before, or a couple of nights out (maybe South of France ) in a US ‘conventional’ with the ‘‘static caravan’’ bolted to back of cab.
There’s a vid somewhere of the interior of that same type Scania owned by that Jock outfit, it’s like being in a top notch bachelor pad.
But the outdated crappy regulations stopping these cabs being mainstream will just go on.
A guy 30 yrs ago had a black Ford Transcon with an extended back… I had a coffee in it with him one day, I was WELL impressed…and envious.
I remember when having an actual ‘‘sleeper cab’’ was the dogs wotsits, and if you had a DAF Spacecab, or a Globetrotter, you were like a celebrity
Nowadays guys doing local type trunks to Tescos all even have premium type highcabs…but do not know how lucky they are compared to past times.
When I drove my first truck…a TK, I’d have killed for a sleeper.
Take a look inside an XG or even an XG+, they’re seriously impressive size wise. Being quite tall I always drive with the seat as far back as possible. The XG I drive is the only truck I’ve driven where the back of the seat not only doesn’t foul the bed but there’s about a ten inch gap from the back of the seat to the mattress. Speaking of mattresses the DAF one is class leading as far as width and comfort go.
I have a 50 litre fridge next to the passenger seat. I can reach it for a drink, as l drive and from the passenger step to retrieve food. I never cook in the cab.
Muddy boots have no place in the cab!
@robroy don’t drive a conventional until you’re ready to retire. You won’t want to go back to slumming it in a cabover, unless you try a Kenworth or Peterbilt.
Note the width, inside the cab, about the same as an MG B. You’d look as flash as a rat with a gold tooth, in a Constellation (Western Star) with a 68" bunk.
Carryfast might pickup some tips on how to use a 15, then he may get out of the yard.
Can ya get 2 in there.
Tell ya what, best not answer that one mate.
Three on a good night
