I ve seen hounds years ago turn a bend on the scent , & on visibly seeing the fox twenty feet in front of them , totally ignored ignored it !, & just milling around in confusion after loosing the sent lol 
This was my friend a couple of years ago - in the middle of Swansea
Yes - I’ve lost livestock to foxes etc. but I still love 'em!
