A few old 'uns from yesterday

Took these few when I was out yesterday. It started raining when I’d taken these so that was it for the day.

A nice-looking pair… I don’t understand why the ERF is on a C-plate though. There’s no way it’s a replica so maybe it wasn’t registered until 1985/6.

A pair of old ERFs which seemed to be used to transport an old steam-powered fun fair ride. Neither really in the best condition - although the ride itself was spotless.

An old Scammel - a Scarab?

Another Scammel, more traditional design on this one though.

Both of 'em side by side.

You wasnt near the jcb open day by any chance was you■■?

simon

deaks thank you very much mate some nice pictures of the veterans of the
British motor industry,

The LV ERF was indeed built in 1985 - that’s why it carries a C- suffix plate.

The Scammells are (on the left) a Scarab) and (on the right) a Townsman.

The phrase ‘don’t hold your breath’ doesn’t count with Marky.

I know if Scammels are mentioned I can safely hold my breath without fear of death :sunglasses:  .

I knew one was a Scarab but never heard of a Townsman. Thought they were all Scarabs - till now. :astonished:

Thanks Marky,

BTW. Nice pics Deaks, thanks for those.

Salut, David.

If I was an aviation fan, the chances are I wouldn’t have answered so quick because it’s Southport Airshow today. Been there, done that so I’m inside looking at what’s happening on here. There are Lancasters, Spitfires, Hurricanes, Tornados and all sorts of other winged things appearing over our house at the moment.

If I’m not mistaken, the Townsman belongs to Lynx Parcels, as does a restored Atkinson Raider that is in BRS Parcels livery.

For a more detailed explanation of the concept that was the ‘mechanical horse’ click here: http://www.mechanical-horse-club.co.uk/mechanical%20horse.htm

Interesting site that Marky. I was thinking the Scarab design was old fashioned looking until I saw the original pre war version which I had forgotten about but now remember seeing on the roads years ago.
Never drove one but I bet they were fun in town, being much more manoeuvrable than a small rigid.

BTW I’m a big fan of Lancasters, Spitfires and Hurricanes too. Half your luck

Nice pics

The ERF was built in 1965, but stored until 1985. I’ve a feeling that the original owner who never used it was Joseph Grant of Broughty Ferry, but can’t be certain. The wagon was featured in one of the comics at the time. My ageing memory also suggests that the Cheshire reg (rather than Scottish) came about because it was owned by David G Davies of Glossop

I knew you’d know for certain - thank you for correcting me. When I read back my reply I was sure I’d got it wrong.

If I remember rightly, there was a firm in Firmin Coates’s yard at Byley Cross that used to convert LV motors to B-Series, and they used to get re-registered.

well, that’s something I didn’t know! Bowie’s of Altrincham used to do that though - LV to B-Series.

P.S. Just come home from a fortnight in Crete on Sunday evening, seen some cracking F88s and F89s

Ta mate. It wasn’t the JCB open day actually, it was the do at Crewe Works this weekend. Not as many trucks as I expected (mainly a train event, of course) and far, far too many ■■■■■■■ obnoxious ■■■■■■■ trainspotters.

Thanks also to Brit Pete, Spardo, Convoy, 240 Gardner and Marky for the compliments and info regarding the Newsome ERF.

Nice pic of that Guy Vixen, great stuff!
