Today i was delivering around oxford / banbury when i got to a drop which was tail lift / pallet truck requirement
As stupid as this sounds, i didn’t check it (used it friday) and a agency driver had been on it monday
He didn’t fill up fuel
He somehow broke the Handset for tail lift
He broke the pallet truck
Agency didn’t report it
So in walk around checks, i made notes regarding usual damage, before strapping down cement and other pallets…
Turned up to drop, and they didnt have pallet truck which was working or forklift… even worse i had to jump down lorry to operate tail lift from outside, after realising mine was broke…
A tattooed guy from Hacklings (Member of palletline) was kind enough to lend me his pallet truck, i thought sure, what a top chap, but he even helped me get it off (as couldnt get pallet truck + operate taillift from outside)
Really greatful for this, and thought i’d share, as it’s a good story in my opinion
Props to driver, cheers buddy and hopefully i can help out in future
Nothing compared to your story but i pulled up to have a quick ciggy and noticed that i had left my lighter at home. I went up and asked a lorry driver who was parked up for a lighter. He gave me a light and i thanked him. The lorry driver then shouted me to come back and gave me his lighter which was nice of him.
There are some nice people out there but it’s rare when people come together to help each other
Nice to know there are still helpful people out there. I’ll usually help out where-ever I can, even down to warning a driver they were about to leave the garage with the rearmost strap flapping around in the breeze.

Valuable lesson learnt today
Nice story,i’ll help anyone out who appears to be having a problem doing this job,as long as it’s not beyond what i know!
I’m sure the good ones in this job still outweigh the bad although i’m not sure how slim the margin is now!
i always help out other drivers. you never know when it will be you that is in a sticky situation and could use a a little help. half the time you can offer your assistance before they get a chance to ask. we are all in the same business, why not help each other out? a bit of courtesy doesnt hurt

Yep, totally agree with you.
I always tried to help people out if they were having difficulties when I was on the road. Even helped some guy sheet his load when it was blowing a gale as others stood around and had a giggle at his misfortune.
I’ll help if I can usually gets the job done quicker for both sides, especially of you in que behind lol, but I’m still a newbie so can only help so much as far as maintenance goes lol
they werent too helpful to me today when the batterys drained at the cobham services
i had jump leads but most refused to help even the RAC truck driver refused until three nice guys in a removals truck from down birmingham way helped out (thanks guys)
