A decent Agency Leeds area?

Anyone got any recommendations for the best agency in the Leeds, Castleford or even Selby area.

Have been with Recruitment Driven at Ossett and they just ripped me off and now 247 in Leeds and only managed to get me 4 shifts this week and really need 5 at least a week.

Recommendations welcome, will mention names if it helps get you a bonus and they are worth staying with.

Cheers

Matt

You lost me at a decent agency mate

I think you`ll struggle to maintain that average, unless your high up the pecking order at any agency.

Though I understand Milestone have a foot in the door at DHL whitwood
Taskmater at Doncaster seem to be doing a few contracts up in the Selby area

■■■■ right… :grimacing:

Goole a bit too far??

Goole is a bit far really, I allow myself 210 miles per week to keep myself within the 10k per year.

Generally speaking I have got 5 shifts per week since February, so maybe my expectations are a little high to get it every week. Maybe just choose to take a week off earlier in the month at the wrong time, putting extra pressure on my finances now.

By the sound of it perhaps 247 aren’t that bad after all, and will need to borrow a bit from my tax savings this month.

Cheers

IMO that’s it a good idea, and a slippery slop etc

A tight month then Pierre, I do value your opinion as an experienced self employed driver, you’ve been doing it a lot longer than me mate

Thanks again

Matt

I always went to to Manpower in Dewsbury and they were brilliant for me. I wanted 6 weeks work to fill a gap and I got 5 days a week for the 6 weeks.

What contract was that paul ? i was going to give them a try next week.

There is no such thing as a ‘Decent Agency’ they are all thieving, scamming companies that exploit workers in every way and give no benefits in return.

Exactly. In a nutshell, they’re ■■■■■!!! :smiling_imp:

I hear from another driver juice at wakefield got him
5 days work at next hermes easy work as I have done
it last week and others think its easy to driving dafs or
merc axors with auto boxs. I do hear they only use nova though.

I and some other drivers I have worked with in the past
have been pulled out with work working for an agency in
rotherham after tell the agency no as they would have you
running 6 days every week only problem is they ask you to
run bent that’s why I left but like many agency’s at the moment
desperate for class 1 drivers

I agree with all the above who say there are no decent agency’s.

Try transline they do the Argos at cass and Arla Leeds. Always got me work

Done a bit for Transline at Argos at Whitwood and they were s it. Done some for tops recruitment based at East Ardsley and sent to DHL at Whitwood. Tops were fine to work for but DHL were a nightmare.
Same agency have work at Warburtons at Whitwood and I do a bit for them now and then. Always been fair with me, woman called Fiona Fickling or Dave Myatt. Apart from the usual comments against agencies I’ve always found them to be honest and upfront. I’m lucky that I don’t need full time hours but when I’ve needed work they’ve had some. Pm me if you want a phone number.

I also deal with Dave Myatt from Tops recruitment / St Omer recruitment, but I’m in Manchester, he doesn’t have much over here I don’t think.

The work he does have is easy and well paid, no hassle getting paid either (unlike some agencies - BEST CONNECTION!!), pays the rate for your class no matter what you’re driving, so if you’re C+E, you get C+E money even if driving a puddle jumper.

BUT, he’s a little unreliable, had a few shifts cancelled at last minute, work is sparodic and even had a text at night asking if it’d be ok if he calls me at 6am if someone lets a firm down.
I agreed to do some night work for him - even though I don’t really do nights after nearly falling asleep at the wheel years ago - and then was let down at the last minute, then ended up in same firm on days and met the guy who took ‘my work’ and he said he’d just signed on with him.

So, in summary, Dave’s a nice guy, never dealt with Fiona, the work is easy and well paid, but they are just like all other agencies, and as long as you know that, and don’t expect the world or believe any of their lies - you know when agency / recruitment specialists are lying, you can hear them speak / see their lips move - you’ll be fine.

i did a few months for juice in wakefield they got me plenty of work either asda at normanton or running for c m downtons in leeds…work was all ok …and no the arnt nova/self employed drivers only…you can be on there books or be se its your choice…

Hi matty72, sorry bout your circumstances.
There are no good agencies, you know that in your heart, they use and abuse you at will. Save yourself any further heart ache with them, if you hurt yourself - you are on your, own, and they drop you in an instant. and hope to get paid, try do something you like doing, avoid the paracites, become your own self employed driver, get cards printed up and drop them in all over the place to companies, u be surprised what might happen. Keep movin,

Avoid the paracites m8t

Don’t get me wrong I’ve had my fair share of cancelled shifts but I honestly think it’s when agencies have themselves been let down. I’ve been booked for a 1600 start on a Saturday only to have it put back to 1800 then 2000 and then be cancelled altogether. I’m not being naive when I come to a conclusion that it will have been Warburtons calling the shots and putting the work back. If a shift gets cancelled then agency don’t get paid so agency will do theit best to get bums on seats.
I used to deal with Dave Myatt when he worked with DHL at Whitwood and that was the biggest pantomime I’ve ever worked for in 20 odd years of transport. Turn up for an 0400 start to have to wait 2 hours for a unit to come back. It happened all the time.
Take what you’re told by agencies with pinch of salt and accept everything you’re told by them at your peril.
I’ve got nothing bad to say about them based on my own experiences.
