I was talking to somebody the other day that like us has JAUPT approval to deliver periodic training. He was talking about some rules that apparently were coming in September this year. I checked what I was being told by contacting the National CPC helpline and here are their replies.
1. That any periodic training already completed by 9th Sept 14 would be voided unless the full 35 hours have been completed
This is NOT the case. If you have completed say 21 hours by the deadline day on 09/09/14 then they will continue to count and you will have to complete the other 14 hours before you could then drive professionally again. Hours will be voided after they are 5 years old unless those hours are used towards a full 35 hour program and a DQC card has been issued. For example CPC came into force on 09/09/09. If a person done a 7 hour course on say 1st Oct 2009 but then done no more CPC training, on 1st Oct 2014 those 7 hours would expire and no longer count towards the 35 hours.
2. After the acquired rights (grandfather rights) period expires on 09/09/14 all candidates will have the choice of taking either the Initial or the Periodic CPC
Again this is NOT the case. If you have acquired rights now (normally because of a pre 97 car licence) despite the fact that those rights expire in Sept 2014 you will still have to complete the 35 hours. Only new entrants to the industry, ie those that had no commercial licence back in 2009 can take the Initial CPC route.
I guess there will be other myths about CPC as the Sept deadline approaches but these are 2 that I feel need mentioning.
