A Chinese truck for the UK market?

Which would no doubt have a huge impact on the overall cost which is the ONLY selling point of this truck.

I will try to be a little more civil than Nick, but not really. There are two Chinese manufacturers already selling coaches here and throughout Europe at Euro 5 with ■■■■■■■ motors in them and they are able to substantially undercut the likes of Volvo, Scania and so on to the tune of about £50k per unit. Both are committed to Euro 6, one at least with DAF engines, and they will no doubt continue to be massively cheaper.

Even though they have to ship them halfway around the globe, economies of scale in China mean they can do this. They turn buses and coaches out over there on the same scale that Vauxhall turn out Astras.

Scoff at your peril, things like this could come here, the limiting factor at the moment might be dealer back-up. but it might only take one dealer and then an operator who’ll keep them local to start using them.

It’s not just economies of scale, it’s lower production costs, wages, conditions, etc.

The thing that concerns me is when we are all driving trucks made China, delivering containers full of goods made in China, how do we make the money to buy them? Can an economy of a country survive if the majority of it is service industries? Or do we turn back years of employment legislation and work for the same pay and conditions as the Chinese?

Well I do like a spring roll with special fried rice and sweet and sour sauce

Things like this will come here. To a large PLC which runs a massive fleet of trucks for a few years and then replaces them there will be a huge saving to be had. One of the Chinese coach manufacturers appears to have gotten over the build quality issue, so it takes little imagination to see that the same will happen with trucks.

There will still be some who claim that they’ll refuse to drive them, however.

Could be the result of a drunken encounter between an Axor and a Hino.
A trip at CDC for some All Ride accessories and bang! You’ve doubled it’s value.
I’d drive one if the work’s easy and money’s good.

As said though it depends on dealership back up …

And price on disposal, although most large companies lease or contract hire, part of that calculation is the residual value. But I’m sure we’ll see something over here sooner rather than later.

Surprised we haven’t seen things like this on our roads yet either,

You’ve got to wonder how long your average china man puts up with quite literally peanuts for a days wage, when china is the second largest economy in the world.

It’s like Vauxhall in Australian market is badged as Opel .all the same company though …
Ford obviously cant see the market space for that truck YET… European truck manufacture’s have at the moment a firm and tight grip on what sales in the UK and wider European markets.

I Know at one point the likes of South Africa had Huge import taxes on trucks brought in to the country which drove company’s to set up manufacturing an assembly plants there which in turn created JOBS… see they aren’t so stupid

Last decent truck Ford built was the Transcon with the Berliet cab heightened so this Ford looks like a make up using the new Renault cab, could
be a top notch rig.

The Chinese King Long coach seems to work quite well, the problem is when its 5 years old no one will buy it from you.I remember this issue with Lada cars. They were as cheap as chips but you had to part exchange for another Lada.A coach firm spending one million pounds could have 4 Volvos or 5 King Longs.I think that in ten years time Chinese and Indian vehicles will be common place on our roads.

I agree…the same thing used to be true of Skoda’s as per the Lada’s & they seem to have done ok!!!

Also…not too long ago we didn’t have Scania’s, Volvo’s, DAF, Renault, Mercedes Benz etc. HGV’s or PSV’s on our roads but their introduction brought an end to Bedford, Leyland, Ford, BMC etc. - as I said…not too far back in history.

Or we could go further back (a little) & remember British motorcycles such as: Triumph, Norton, BSA, Vincent, James, etc. etc. etc. being blown away by the Japanese ‘Big Four’ almost overnight.

Never say never!!!

That would depend on wether anyone doesn’t regard the so called first largest economy as just an economic wreck living on borrowed time and money having closed down much of it’s domestic manufacturing base to make the Chinese richer.

China is the ‘second ( first depending on the above ) largest’ economy in the world because it’s workers are a bunch of down trodden compliant robots working for the interests of their privileged Communist Party leaders. While the so called ‘Capitalists’ in the West are happy to sell out their own economies for a few kick backs out of the profits of the use of such slave labour.Having long ago abandoned the idea of true Fordist Capitalism.

As for Chinese trucks there is a reason why Boeing and Airbus hasn’t so far transferred their aircraft manufacturing operations to China at any labour cost. That being that there is a point where the equation between profit and zb Chinese engineering becomes unviable, even for the so called ‘Capitalists’ who run the sinking western economies.

It’s obvious that if something doesn’t change in regards to us getting out of the EU and the global free market economy. The inevitable outcome is that the pound becomes just a worthless token used domestically. While China takes payment in real estate and farmland and the country’s remaining wealth creating sectors in order to feed the Chinese. In exchange for the cheap Chinese tat we don’t need and that we could make better ourselves.

While British workers will be working for their Chinese paymasters in rented Chinese owned housing with our own food supplies being rationed to us, to make the Chinese Communist Party faithful richer just like their own people.Under threat of the Peoples ‘Liberation’ Army if they dare to rebel against the situation.By which time the ‘Capitalists’ who got rich from the kick backs provided to arrange the Commy scam retire to their private Islands and tax havens etc. :bulb: :imp:

Makes me laugh, if it had been posted as the new Scania it would have beencant wait to get on of them, that looks the dogs danglies etc. but because its chinese it looks poop, will be worth nowt and will be the worst thing ever to see a british road. Amazing what a name can do.

Yes please.

That Ford unit looked pretty cool. Why don’t we have them here? Didn’t Ford used to run Iveco?

Have Ford been forgiven for the Cargo yet? Not a bad 7.5tonner and a few are still about as donkey boxes but their 6wheeled tippers and mixers were (being polite) “a bit asthmatic”.
I like basic motors, Merc Axor 8wheeler is a good truck,* Hino still shifting pre registered Euro 5s etc.
*And I type this sober.

Could not have put it better myself , I agree 100% .
