Some of you know Mo’Hammer (John Aalborg) from his posts here and his regular column in trucking magazines. Did you know he also writes novels? He has them available as Kindle eBook downloads and also one of them as a paperback. John started driving trucks in Germany in the late 1950s when he left the US Air Force and lived off the black economy there for a few years till they deported his ■■■ back to the States. He has driven everything with wheels since then and it shows in his writing.
You can read about his truck driving private detective hero, Bull Schaffner in ‘Gulf Coast Stories’ which is a great collection of short stories. Or you can read the epic truck driving, gun fighting, sleep with your hot sister story ‘Lowboy #22’ http://www.amazon.com/Lowboy-22-Murder-Romance-ebook/dp/B003A02NP2/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1328169050&sr=1-1For me though, the best of the lot is the prequel to Lowboy #22,‘Harry And Ivory’ http://www.amazon.com/Harry-Ivory-Love-Story-Beyond/dp/1468188372/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1328168754&sr=8-12. This focuses on Bull’s father, Harry, and his dysfunctional family life and love for a black woman half his age, Ivory. Set in Florida there is a lot in this book that gets the head nodding. Say no more.
I only drove a semi-trailer the once, a Mack low loader tank transporter when I was in the Army and a mate at the School Of Trucks let me have a go one lunch time in the safe driving area. That whetted my appetite but it wasn’t until 30 years later that I read ‘Lowboy #22’ and I really wanted to drive a rig down the interstate, that’s how real the writing is. I doubt anyone who hasn’t driven a lot of miles in real trucks could fake that.
