Driver in that crash in Buckinghamshire ,on M1 ,that killed eight people ,got 14 years .
Still, 110 for colorado fellow ,seems a little bit excessive .
The good thing he might get an early release after, say ,80 years ,for good behavior

And you advocate that for what appears to be poor decision making or negligence?

■■? Choosing to drive @ 85mph when the limit is 55 nationwide in the States - is choosing to commit a crime over choosing to be sensible at all times, as one might expect of a professional truck driver.
You might as well drive coked and drunk out of your skull, and say “That’s a valid choice, and I was only unlucky to have crashed and killed a whole bunch of people due to my… NEGLIGENCE?”
Get TF out of here. This guy deserves his century-plus in jail to come! The only one he’s crying for - is himself!
Bury him.
Personally, that other case getting 10 years for wiping out a family - was rather too lenient imho.
In that case, Six years for EACH death (i.e. “consecutive” sentencing) would seem to be more appropriate…

Chose to drive at 85?
Even the prosecution didn’t argue that the brakes may not have been faulty

He didn’t choose to drive at 85 at all. He was a rookie and cooked his brakes on a notorious road. Yes he should of gone for the escape ramp but would of been in a state of absolute panic and maybe thought he would of gotten in trouble with his employer for using it so was hoping he could regain control of the truck. His inexperience caused the crash and the ridiculous sentence makes him a victim too.

Where do you get the idea that there’s a blanket 55mph speed limit in the US?
Wot’s the national speed limit in the States if it isn’t 55mph any longer?
C’mon, educate me, and my lack of never having been stateside…
That’s always been a complete myth, it’s state by state and some allow up to 70-80 mph from memory.
It’s not a myth but a historical fact.
Washington imposed a nationwide 55mph truck speed limit in the seventies as a response to the oil crisis at that time and it more or less remained till late nineties.
I think California is the only state with 55 mph truck limit today.
In my experience the US trucks were very stable at high speed but the brakes were useless by comparison to wot we got here in Europe despite max weight limit of 36t so he could well have cooked the brakes.

The limits vary from state to state, many states have a 70 limit on Interstates.
Colorado limit is 75 on Rural Interstates, 65 on Urban Interstates and 65 on other roads.
The purpose of this thread was to gauge the will of fellow drivers as to this concept of “Throwing the books at drivers who err, causing death”…
Personally, I’m in favour of it - as it leads directly to a further tightening of the spotless experienced driver supply - don’t it?
I await with baited breath for all these new rookie drivers to hit the wider driving economy, for example - only to immediately faceplant fail somehow, and make the would-be employer realize that it IS worth paying £20ph plus these days for a quality driver who does NOT smash your kit up, let alone harm the public!
…Imagine the lawsuits, if it could be established a large employing firm were going out of their way to employ £10ph rookies to save money, only for that errant driver to then wipe someone out somewhere, a situation that could have been entirely avoided by simply paying the going rate, rather than pushing the government to re-supply the depleted driver pool with… Inexperienced if not untrained outright drivers…
Videos posted on social media, reportedly show lines of trucks whose drivers refuse to drive through the state of Colorado, where Rogel Aguilera-Mederos was convicted.
“Truckers, if it happened to Rogel, it can happen to you. stay united,” a comment says.
