Would i get cheap Concrete for my house?
I would think so cause the overheads are low if they are only payng the driver £7.75 they can probably source cheap sand cement and aggregate as well!
That’s damned hard work for £7.75 an hour - 4 people have apparently applied so I hope they will be very happy!
interesting …i take that its low pay for a CMD in the uk.
i never hauled redimix in the uk,but thats part o my job over ere in Manitoba.
ive been asked before what i earn so …for a small non union company (its makes a big big difference over here) im on aprox 12.50gbp(18.25$) for redi mix work.for 42hrs then after 42hrs 1.5.x .sat 2x. ,need to add 4% holiday pay into hr rate. When on sand /stone on the trains a fair bit more.
imo for LaFARGE etc piece work + basic wage…longest service gets to pick loads.,jump qs etc, paid till last truck unloads. no my idea o fun
jimmy happy hibernating for winter…roll on spring
a jobs a job, and if no british lads want the job im sure someone from euro land will snap it up.
then people wonder when people moan about jobs based in this country go to “immigrants”

Hard work The batching plant drops it into the mixer and that mixes it.You don’t have to mix it by hand with a shovel .

True; but piloting a laden mixer does demand a decent set of driving skills. Have to admit I’ve never done it but you rarely see one parked up in a layby with the driver’s seat tipped back and his feet on the dash either.
Missus gets a better hourly rate than that for driving a bus down here in darkest Wales; wouldn’t have thought Shoreham was exactly an employment blackspot by national standards so the rate does look pretty poor to me.

gg, if you dont mind me asking what part of west wales are you in ?
Not bad if there’s an overtime rate; CMD is usually longer hours than tippers, you could be standing out in all weathers operating the drop controls into a wheelbarrow. The reason you don’t see them sat in laybys is because if they’re like Smiths Concrete, you’ve got the office calling the plant to tell the drivers when to have their breaks, when to put on poa etc…

That’s what put me off doing it; thought it might be a bit “office-driven” and it’s bad enough standing in a barn blowing 18 tonnes of dusty wheatfeed into a pile of straw bales. At least you stay reasonably dry!
The best, most interesting driving job I’ve ever had & would still be doing it but for the economic “crash”… building work is always one of the first to go.
ive done mixer work and still do some hol cover and tbh i enjoyed it, usually done by 4, if its peeing down it will norm get cancelled same as cold weather… never had a prob with breaks take em as and when i want… wheel barrow jobs? sit in the cab and operate from there as long as you can see the chute with a little experience you can tell how far to discharge for a barrow full… you will get a few arse nipping times though, surprising where and what angles you can get a mixer into…
