Why is it not a skilled job, can anyone just do it…■■?
Of course anyone can do it. Despite what some drivers like to think, and how others make it look, the act of piloting a lorry from one place to another is not difficult.

Of course anyone can do it, but it’s still a skill, otherwise you wouldn’t have to pass a test or gain experience, to me an unskilled job is where anyone can just walk off the street and do it with no training.

It was me that choose to end it as I’m wanting class 2 work now, was there for 8 weeks and only passed my class 2 4 weeks ago. There is still 2 agency drivers there.
Sorry misread your post . I thought you said you was driving artics , which I found a bit strange for the dust . Yeah even in London the agency loaders are on minimum wage , blame the Jam Rolls for that.
Yes I did say I was driving artics(8.25T/C1E), and it was for waste collection in all the side streets.

Of course it’s not difficult you muppet you’ve been trained & qualified to do it, hence a skill !!! Doh.
If you could hand your keys to anyone on the street and say here, take this artic through the streets of London with no training, then yes it would be an Unskilled job…but as we all know ( except you ) you can’t.
not working there anymore so happy to say what i worked for, my last job paid £8.50 p/h and £11 after 10 hours driving a van!!! not even a LWB one. Any nights out I was put up in a hotel, this week alone I’ve spent nearly £600 (company credit card) on hotels due to it being London Fashion week.
Decent jobs are out there paying a ■■■■ sight more than £7 p/h, you won’t find them on the internet or through the job centre though, you have to put the leg work in.

Its agency work. Some of the streets here are very tight but I will try and take on anything. I’m hoping that I have a good crew, bit disappointed though about the hours. Do the guys on the back of the cart get paid by the hour as well?
I haven’t heard of any dust job that isn’t job and knock, so they’ll get paid for eight even if you only do four hours, so the quicker you get done the better. But if your slow and don’t help the crew will give you he’ll as obviously they want to F off home as quick as poss. It’s not quite the job it once was , less men on the beat per truck or extra roads now per gang etc and gangs are working longer hours , but you should still get finished early most days . Try to get the end of the truck as near as possible to the piles of bags or bins as this makes it easier for the loaders. It’ll be an automatic , don’t leave it in gear as the back won’t work when it’s in gear , but everyone forgets now and then so don’t panic when you do it. Also I’ll be amazed if you don’t have the odd prang, I don’t know a dust driver that hasn’t as you’ll be going down roads that aren’t meant for lorries, you can report it, but most don’t if it hasn’t been observed , in my book if they’ve parked on a corner awkwardly then they deserve it. Good luck
I don’t really want to do four hours work while they get paid for eight. Doing 4 hours a day I’ll be taking home less money than I did working in a cafe.

You’ll get paid the full eight as well, I’d imagine half the loaders are agency as well. If your not used to driving trucks your going right in at the deep end, but it’ll give you experience . Just don’t panic when you make mistakes which you definitely will do.

LOL. Insults don’t do your argument any good unless you happen to be about 13, but truck driving is not a skilled job. There is no end of ‘drivers’ out there who clearly have zero skills when it comes to driving a truck, but they can still call themselves lorry drivers.
On the other hand, if it somehow increases your sense of self-worth to consider driving as a skilled occupation, fill your boots.

Contradicting yourself then, you say ‘not a skilled job’ & then ‘clearly have zero skills’…well if it’s an Unskilled job why do they need more than zero skills ■■?

Yes - anyone an ‘drive’ a lorry…but not all can do it in an efficient and effective manner… and you also need to have an ‘aptitude’ for this kind of work…
I’ve seen old timers with 40 odd years on the road still struggle to reverse onto bays…and also seen newbies back onto the same bays with ease… so tell me…is that a skill or not? My vote is YES!
skill yes, do you need a license to do it? no… we all know farmer kids ect that can chuck a trailer into spots that experienced guys would shy away from…
