A 68 Speed camera

Just had a NIP to say I was speeding on the A 68 ‘North of Cranston Church’

I think they may have miss- spelt this and it could be ‘Cranstoun Church’, north of Pathead.

Now I know there is a fixed camera there and I usually take note of this.

1st question is, how would a fixed camera detect a class 2 truck exceeding 40mph, but doing less than 60mph which is the max on this stretch of road?

2nd question. How does an agency driver check on his digi card what his speed was at the time given for the offence, (alleged)

  1. Some speed cameras sites have height sensors before the camera and when a vehicle over a certain height approaches it drops down to enforce the 40mph limit. They are quite rare tho but the A1 has them.

Ive not done the A68 in a good few months, but wasnt any like that on it before. Possibly it was a talivan.

Have to ask them for proof and they should give you a link to see the pics of online.

  1. You can’t, digital tachographs only store speed traces for the past 24 hours.

They know its a HGV as the registration number automatically goes through the ANPR system ,then automatically generates a NIP if you break the lower speed limit regardless of the posted limit. (This is what I’m lead to believe, I might be wrong ■■?).

You must have been going flat out to get caught there. we go through a tad under 50 and it never goes off.
The camera just south of Pathead past the layby where the snack van is has never ever had power put to it.

Here’s the link to the scamera you’re on about.

If it’s single carriageway the limit is 40 mph for an LGV.

Think that there are weight sensors in the roads prior to the camera, this tells the machine what the permitted max speed of the vehicle passing is. The speed information on a digi is, I think, time in speed bands only, for instance 55 minutes at between 75 and 85 kph, but no instantaneous values, nor recorded history. Bring back the paper frisbee!!

Thats the one I thought it would be, although the map spells it Cranstoun, (will that get me off :frowning:, don’t think so.)

They’re saying I was doing 50 MPH. Day before I was out in a 7.5T so I plead confusion.

Nice to know the digi-card we have to spend our money on is less help than the old paper system.

Just heard today that a mates colleague got caught in an HGV by the same camera on the same day.

Coincidence or have the settings been played with?

Have all cameras been fitted with ANPR or systems for detecting trucks?

I’m a fairly infrequent part time agency driver, so not really clued up about fixed camera technology.

tell them to check the address if they come back with a mispelt seek advice from solicitor…seek advice anyway.

Have a look on here for advice on your situation.

In Scotland, they recommend sending back the N.I.P. unsigned.

And allegedly doing exactly the same speed as I was alleged to have done.

Does this not seem to be too many coincidences?

A lot of them have wires under the tarmac that sense the wheelbase of the vehicle, they usually put the wires under the tarmac to monitor sites where a speed camera is being suggested, this is so they can do forecasts for revenue, just to see if it is worth the ‘investment’ :frowning:

True - get it checked out because you cant be prosecuted for an offence in a location that either doesnt exist or is nowhere near where it “actually” occurred.

This camera has radar that senses a vehicles bulk I’ve now been told by the Lothian camera dept, and they’re sending me the evidence of the alleged offence.
Oh well, 40 year clean licence bites the dust :frowning:
I’m gonna be a good boy now, honest!

The camera on the A52 near grantham is one that catches many a HGV driver out…it’s caught out some of ours as they come down the hill…

OK, my last post on this. General consensus is that the Cranston Church camera was knocked over recently and the new one has the vehicle bulk detection radar fitted, so be warned, 50mph+ may get you nicked.
I got the standard 3points and £60 letter in today, so I’ll stump up and be more carefull

Your car insurance will hardly change for 3 points and one crash so don’t worry about it if your licence is clean, just be a bit more on the ball next time. That’s what happened to me anyway.
