£3k per month plus night out money!

A mate of mine asked what I would want to go back Euro driving again…I told him a minimum £3k a month (£36000 a year) and £25 per night out plus something for being weekended. Not fussed about overtime rates, paid abit extra for working bank holidays etc…just a straight forward salary.

Since its been about 15 years since I did regular European work, I wondered if this is a realistic amount to expect nowadays?

Im aware that the amount of Brit trucks running into Europe has greatly reduced nowadays but there are still companies that do…would that sort of salary be expecting to much?

Cheers, bullitt.

PS…and a decent sized truck to live in

Careful he doesn’t start sleep walking.

i wish it payed that much id do it again in my experiance of euro work its either payed more the same and somtimes less than uk work ive done.

i if i can take home 500 - 600 on days with no premiums (ADR/HIAB etc) then i dont see why you couldnt get that kind of money on euro work. that was working 60 - 70 hours per week at £9 per hour basic

Or sleep “driving”!!!..im sure i`ve done that a few times :open_mouth: :unamused:

Thats was one of the things that (zb) me off with driving in Europe…push, push, chase, chase…bring back T-forms, customs and borders!! At least you could have a beer in the sun “whilst waiting for the load to clear”

bullitt.

Don’t know what that is take home but here in Ireland I know, paid by trip of course, Milan is around 850 euro, back to around 650 euro for germany. Seems to be general run of it here.

Even the bloke who drove the truck from that £50.000.000 raid wont be on that type of money :stuck_out_tongue: Not for long anyway

Because for most types of haulage, the rates wouldn’t support that kind of money on Euro work. As an employed driver you could generally get better money on UK work than Euro and you wouldn’t do Euro work for the money. Not everyone does it for just the money, there are things such as job satisfaction, being happy with what you do etc as well. Also being paid hourly would be the exception rather than the rule on Euro work; most drivers would be on trip money or a salary.

Euro work is all but dead and buried for UK hauliers unless you are in a specialised or niche market. There are exceptions to this but you only have to look at the decline in UK registered trucks crossing the channel, down from 50% to 25% through Dover in just a few years, to see this.

Among the 70 or so trucks parked where I am this weekend I am the only one with UK registration plates, I have also twice been asked if I am Polish but that’s another story.

I was pulling clear £380 a week plus ex’s and a £1000 bonus every three month just for working internal out in Saudia in the 80’s, I know for a fact that lads today are going over the water for £5.40 an hour and you all know the firms, they have got to be [zb] mad.

I’m on just short of £32000 salary for a 56hr week including breaks just doing UK and get extra for nights out, but I travel 35 miles each way, each day. When I was doing Euro about 8 yrs ago now, we were paid a daily rate so some days would just be 10hrs and others would be the max 15/16 hrs and that was excluding waiting times for ferries. The pay was less than I,m on now and the hours longer but if my wife and kids would let me I would be back over the water in an instance. Money isnt everything and I got a hell of a lot more job satisfaction doing Europe than I do now. Its all down to personal preference and if the money is the main reason why your doing the job, but I would say its very rare for companies these days to be paying more on continent than UK work.

You can earn that kind of money over here B&Q in Radlett are paying £37,000 for 55 hours a week one weekend day in 4 or 6 i think nice steasdy number if you can afford to live in London.

fair comment. i wouldnt do it for any money so i suppose your post is the other side of the coin ie some people enjoy it so they arent bothered about what it pays. personally, i didnt even like going to IOW and my missus is always on my back about going abroad on holiday. i dont like boats or planes though :unamused:

In reality the rates you quoted should be what drivers earn for eurowork…but…those days are long gone…what with the Poles…Czechs etc undercutting the rates…there is a lot of competition…so expect to take home approx £450 to £550 weekly.
There are of course drivers who take a bit more…and a lot who take less, but thats an average on our company with the last figure for a rostered saturday, i dont work weekends, we leave that to the casuals…so i take £450 for 5 days.which isnt too bad…and isnt too good…but i`m happy in my work…and a happy little bunny…

Thats about 5 drops and 3 collections and thats dublin to dublin !! about 7 days. That allows 1 day collecting here 1 day delivering here another day with ferries (half each way) leaves 4 days from hollyhead to milan, collections & deliveries and tear back to hollyhead, great craic !!

You’ll be telling us its all 100% legal next aswell

Tony b

well our euro drivers are on £65/day, £35/night-out (£25 if spent in the UK), and £40/day if weekended.

Or they could earn £120/day, £20/night-out on UK work.

The lure has to be the bag-houses.
