£10 p.h. for sat + sun class 1 work?

The trouble is that the job has been dumbed
down and made too easy now, not only are the lorries so bloody
easy to drive that a monkey can do it.

.
Yes - it’s a very easy job. Not a coalmine, a steelworks or a building site.

I don’t do ropes, sheets, handball or even curtains.

I do LB2LB only. I’ve just invented that - it means Loading Bay to Loading Bay.

It’s either food manufacturer or supermarket RDC for me.

For those whose kids have flown and who have another part time job this works quite well (forgetting the money). Sat/Sun driving, 2 days off in the week when everyone else’s kids are at school and then the other 3 days part time work. Even better on a casual basis - weather forecast for the weekend is good and that event I like the idea of is on too, so I won’t be available this weekend ever so sorry. An extra couple of quid an hour might have swayed me but no, I fancy the airshow/rally/cricket.

24/7 rates seem to be creeping in. i dont work sundays for weekday rates so i dont do sundays any more. saturdays are the one day that seems to be the fly in the ointment. they are always short of drivers. cant imagine why :unamused:

£1000 is a average week for me, £1300 is my record and a few others on here, I don’t need to Wake up and smell any coffee. The problem is that people are happy to work for pennies, 90 hours a week, but like you say… You want X per week, regardless of how bad the rates are.

Back to the original post… How on earth do drivers expect pay and conditions to improve if people are happy to work for £10 an hour on a Sunday night? How do the company expect decent drivers to work for such a low wage?

Saturday rates in many companies, in many different industries & sectors that require weekend working are largely a thing of the past. Sunday rates are just about managing to keep hanging around, but give it time. The retail sector in particular is increasingly taking the line of “weekends are part of the job, take it or leave it”. I have met shop staff when delivering who have been amazed when they hear I am working for double time on Sunday, they are just on normal rate and they know no different. The transport industry will follow increasingly. We live in a 24/7 world these days, the more weekend working becomes normal in a sector/industry the less justifiable premiums are to employers.

At £150 for a fifteen hour shift that’s £25 more on a Saturday and £15 more than a Sunday at my place where do I sign up.

if I’ve read this correctly, then your saying that your gaffer pays you the mear sum of £8.33 an hour on saturday and £9.00 an hour on sunday.
what are you on for a week day? minimum wage.

I’m on a day rate of £115 a day Monday to Friday, £125 on a Saturday and £135 on a Sunday (I don’t work Sunday’s) sometimes I can do 9-10hrs but sometimes it’s a 15 (although the 15’s are always gone by Thursday and usually there all 14hrs or under)

£455.77 Week Days - 65 Hours
£150 Saturday 15 Hrs
£165 Sunday 15 Hours

To say there is NO DEDUCTIONS/STOPPAGES on this, I concur these hours just do not make sense, you can not legally do them! You are clearly LYING about your wage, you can not do 65 hours in 4 days and I didn’t take off any stoppages so your NET amount is supposed to be more?

If you work for those rates you have absolutely no right whatsoever to complain about the downward spiral in pay and conditions. Ill await the beggars can’t be choosers brigade to come along and justify why we should all be grateful for such charity from our employers.

The problem is that while muppet drivers accept and work for these ■■■■ poor rates, that is all they will ever get. All you hear are excuses like mouths to feed, bills to pay or it suits me so eff the rest of you, and yet they think they have the right to moan about wages.

Drivers drop like flies because of the stupidly long hours they work just to earn something that resembles a wage. Their wives leave them and their kids don’t know who they are. Their health suffers immensely but its ok because its worth it just to drive the topliner. Sorry but those drivers all need shooting because it is them who are holding conditions the way they are. They argue that this is the way haulage has always been, ok then, don’t try to change things, just accept them and work for nothing because that is where you will end up but hey ho, its easier to find a job whilst your in a job so working for nothing has its perks right■■?

So what happens on a friday evening when you’ve done nearly 75 hours in one week, and you run up someone’s arse half asleep, and kill them?
It’s the 75 hour week. every week I have trouble with - not the pay. Thus, my argument is that this is ENTIRELY about the hourly rate - as to be driving safely rather than the regular working of excessive hours just to keep the wolf from the door.

If you are full time, or even working this over 6 months, then how does 75 hours a week every week fit into the “48 hour average” btw?

I reckon that VOSA must have been told by our illustrious governmentS “Not to enforce a crackdown on anything that lets slave labour take place” - thus they will cotinue to “not bother” pulling people up for taking the ■■■■ with their hours, - providing they don’t have an accident. :imp:

Its that bloody POA fiddle, should be disallowed.
