999 crews weaving through traffic

Why do they weave through the stationary traffic on motorways like the M25 yesterday when there is a perfectly good hard shoulder for them to use? It takes longer to get there weaving in and out, can’t see the sense?

Probably because some truckers think daily rest is an emergency so they park on the hard shoulder  :unamused:

The hard shoulder is often blocked by queue jumpers and as it’s a narrow lane there is no room for them to get out of the way, also on the M25 where the road has been made into 4 lanes the hard shoulder is not continuous due to bridge supports.
The widest lanes are the main running lanes and there is more room to allow emergency vehicles through if drivers just move a little to the left, or right as appropriate, to let the blues and two’s pass by. Regrettably this often fails when some plonker tries to follow the emergency vehicles in the hope that he can sneak through and then blocks the way cleared when others really need to get through. On a 3 lane motorway I would try and straddle lanes 2 & 3 to get through as these are usually occupied by narrower vehicles.

Nick 'em all and paint box junctions in appropriate areas to keep it clear then tell people what they’re for and enforce it!

theres so many donts for the drivers, take our local fire service oxon for example, theyve been told NOT to use the h/shoulder until the last few metres or unless traffic prevents them from proceeding in live lanes, and then when they do, its a slow jaunt at 20mph!
als annoying that they hav to go down 1-3 junctions round here then back up, instead of being allowed to fly down the wrong way if police/highways have closed road and checked for a lack of vehicles?
