Just started a job beginning of week on the concrete mixers currently learning the ropes.
Lost paper part of my licence which HR are needing a photocopy of so ive sent for a replacement. When doing so ive noticed its still showing 6 points for a CU80 (Mobile phone use) on there from april 2022 which i thought wouldve been removed april this year (after 3 years) but after a bit of googling , it shows on licence for a further year even tho these points are now invalid.
The problem i now have is that ive a further 3 points on there (SP30 ) from may last year so,
In there eyes am i still classed as having 9 points or am i down to 3 as im now afraid once i provide the paper part of my licence they may have to let me go as 9 points may be too much in regards to insurance. For context there a decent enough sized concrete firm in northern ireland so i dont know what way they’l work it
Can anyone try put my mind at ease as i really wanted this job but i may now be out of one. Ive been driving class 2 for 3 years now
For anyone else reading this: there is no paper part to a UK licence. That ended 10 years ago. To show points or clean licence to a prospective employer or insurance company or hire car company, you need to go here
If hiring a car on the spot abroad some reckon it is best to print that off before travelling.
–=–=–=
Insurance depends entirely on the insurance provider and the policy they have with the haulauge company.
Edit.
Some have more expensive insurance that allows for drivers with more points. Some only accept 100% clean licences and have cheaper insurance premiums.
From the outside, it is guesswork for us to say about your possible job.
Can’t you do a course instead of points for a sp30 ? Or are they not available in ni ?
Though I must admit I nearly got chucked off it as I said when asked the course was a waste of my time ,
As for loosing the job , I wouldn’t be suprised as they seem to be sacking people everyday these days , had one this week for being on his phone , and another who ran into the back of a van
There are still some people who are clinging onto the paper counterpart of the old 2 part driving licence because they don’t want a big brother photo licence, but as a vocational license holder the odds of someone having not renewed the license and receiving a photo licence is slim
I think you are meaning the older fully paper licence? The counterpart goes (or rather went) with a plastic photo licence?
They were last issued in 2000. Still legal in the UK, but may have to be backed up by International Driving Licences if going overseas.
Cheaper than having to renew it every five years for the plastic photocard one? For HGV though I don’t know anyone that still has the pink and green paper license though.
Last paper licences issued 2000, I think. To have held an HGV ticket you would have been 21yrs or more, (outside the forces?) and so would be 46 now. Medical due at 45, so….
So how do i stand then with handing 9 points on my licence to employer even tho 6 points are no longer valid, leaving me 3 only? Do you think they’l be fine with keeping me onboard?.. im already near a week in out shadowing with a driver, contracts signed, HR & health and safety inductions done, could be another week or 2 before paper part returns so i will prob be driving by that point
As @franglais has said there is no paper part to the licence anymore, you go onto the .gov website linked to in this post and get a code, you give your employer the code you’ve generated and they will have 21 days to check your licence categories codes and endorsements.
It’s all done online, and from memory, takes just a couple of minutes
Not strictly true I had an insurance company that would not cover me cause I had 3 expired points and got 3 more. That was in a car obviously but it is all going to depend on the insurance company the business uses or even company policy about points. Some are more lenient that others some not so.
It is a farce really they should be valid for X time and then removed and no requirement to keep them on the licence for an extra year and declare to your insurance for 5 years. They are either spent or not spent after X amount of time, just another way to screw people for more money.
Well to be fair I never said anything about the insurance companies attitude towards spent points, legally the points are no longer valid for totting up purposes after 3 years but I agree with what you say about insurance companies screwing people though
Years back renewed dad’s car insurance online for him.
Did it all then day after got a call he has 3 points on his licence which weren’t declared.
I explained didn’t know dad never said plus thed expired anyway.
And basically had pay extra £50 admin fee to change the details on the policy
