9/11. Where everyone was on that day

i was changing tyres on a dumper truck with my mate when it came on the radio

I was in the school office with a few mates getting a bollocking because the night before we got into the playground and built jumps for our BMXs and left it in a ■■■■ state. Remember getting home and watching the second plane hit live. Remember it so clearly can’t believe it’s 10 years!!!

Had come over to the UK to collect a Land Rover, with a good mate who happens to be a policeman in Germany. We watched the news on the TV that was in the reception of where we had to do the pick up for about three hours, when Marc, (my mate) said that we should head back to the tunnel as they might close it, and that he ought to get back to Germany as they might cancel all Polizei holidays…

We were listening to the aftermath as we drove down to the tunnel and arrived back in Frankfurt at about 04:00 the next morning.

As many have noted, that was the day much of the world we knew, changed forever…

I was at home i think can’t really remember, but i can remember there being nothing on the TV apart from the planes crashing into the towers, i know that a lot of innocent people (civilians) where killed and that was clearly wrong, but talk about the media milking it and creating lots of hype as well after the event with their speculations etc that i believe is wrong also
I also do not agree with a lot of what happened afterwards either, as Al Qaeda aren’t the only terrorists it would seem,or liars
And the press & American government are still milking the 9/11 tragedy see linkhttp://tribune.com.pk/story/249838/credible-but-unconfirmed-terror-threat-clouds-start-of-911-ceremonies/ credible threat my A
Just as credible as saddam Hussein having stockpiles of WMD’s

If you cannot remember you are either too young or are talking ■■■■■■■■. There were almost 3000 people killed and 9000 injured, all within 100 minutes. This was the worse terrorist attack the world has ever known.

People left for work with their briefcases, sandwiches and flasks and their families did not know whether their loved ones would ever come home again.

Milking it, you were probably still on your mothers ■■■. What else did you want to watch on TV, cartoons?

As for a credible threat today, the British Government and Royal Family are gathered in a memorial garden in Grosvenor Square in London. If that is not a terrorist target I don’t know what is.

It was some 10 yrs ago, the British government have been a target for terrorists for decades nothing new there, but just because the us government say something which the media seem to then follow without questioning it, leads to lots of people being suckered into their sad mind set of propaganda and bull (zb)

Here is an example of the war you don’t see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ee3B2-DpA8c clearly if those who have lost loved ones are looking where to place blame maybe they should look a little closer to home

I was in bed finished night trunk that morning from frankfurt to manston on the airfreight. The wife phoned me about lunchtime to tell me to put telly on.Spent rest of day watching what happenend. It really didn’t hit home till a couple of months later we found out that a freind of the wife’s who lives in America was actully on the phone to her husband, who was in the second tower when the plane hit it.That really taught me how small the world really is God rest all there souls.

I was coming back down the M40 towards home in southampton when Steve Wright said on the radio that a plane had crashed into the world trade centre,New York, got home 3 or so hours later and watched in total disbelief the tv footage all about it.
i remember them saying on the radio at the time they didnt know what exactly was going on,very sad day for the world.
R.I.P. all those that perished.

I was in bed, I had been sent home from work because I had a cough :open_mouth: at the time I worked at TRUCK magazine and we had a big open plan office for all the transport group titles, none of them wanted my cough so I was persona non gratis. Craig Sheer phoned me and told me turn on the news, it was an unbelievable story, I was worried at the time that it would be the start of WW3.

I visited NYC the following year, the site at ground zero had an erieness about it that cannot be described, the devastation was awful and their were momentoes everywhere for the victims, quite an emotional experience, I visit NYC as often as I can (we have a couple of runs where I can nick a day off there) I visit ground zero almost everytime, I’m not a religious type, but I always have a thoughtful moment thinking of the thousands that perished

RIP

I was working for a TNT subbie.

Got back to the yard, and the boss said “someones crashed a plane into the World Trade Center”

Anyway went to the pub on the way home, and watched the 2nd plane hit and both towers fall live.

My boss now lost some good friends that day.

Was on holiday in St John de Monts.
Can remember going into the clubhouse with the family early afternoon and looking up at the tv behind the bar thinking. .
“not another yank film” .Then it dawned on me i was watching it unfold on Cnn.

No it was exactly 10 years ago today, that is the reason it is in the media again, and the reason it is called 9/11, 11th September 2001. Yes the British government have been targets or terrorism for a long time, but never on this scale. I suppose Britain got off quite lightly with only 67 casualties out of the final list of dead.

The media have been questioning the events for the last 10 years, some are on the side of the victims, some are on the side of the terrorists. Isn’t Al Jazeerah TV owned by the Qatar government? Maybe their reporting is not quite kosher either. I do understand propaganda and as it was used by both sides in both world wars and Vietnam. I don’t doubt it isn’t used today either.

TV screens around the world showed the terrible disaster that befell the twin towers, they were real. I have stood on top of them. They were crashed into by hijacked aeroplanes, it wasn’t King Kong or Gail Porters arse being projected onto a building from a lens.

I don’t doubt John Pilger has some very valid points and disturbing pictures, any war correspondent will have seen much worse than most of us on this forum.

You may have a point there Malc

Was in a french lesson at school when it happen, but didn’t find out about it untill i got home at 1600.

I was on my way to a drop in Leeds , heard about an accident involving twin towers on the radio on the way down , wasnt until i got home that i learnt the full extent and spent the rest of the day glued to the tv, also remember that day well as i got lost and when turning round in a side street picked up a load of tacks in both n/s tyres , went to ATS the following day for 2 new ones :frowning:

washing my haid. and doeing my nails.

Have’nt a clue■■? Mind you I cant remember where I was when Kennedy was shot, although everyone else says they can. :open_mouth: Even people who were’nt even born yet!!

I know it was real fact not fiction ffs,

Just because i don’t want to see something over, over, over & yet over again and then again dwell on it 10yrs later don’t mean that i don’t give a dam about all those who perished, but i don’t see the point in keeping raking it up, life is too short,
you never know what tomorrow will bring time to move on +

I don’t see how this is of any help to the families of those who had friends & family in both the planes that crashed and the towers, they will never forget , as will the majority of people the (zb) by the media is not needed

I was 15 at the time and was working on my dads farm sat in the middle of a field ploughing when the radio suddenly went dead and I wondered what was going on. All of a sudden the breaking news came on and I couldn’t believe it. Finished soon after, went to do my paper round then spent rest of the day in front of the tv.

I do hope that this won’t turn into a school boy quarrel :unamused:

Everyone has a valid and pertinent view point, whether we agree with it or not… One thing we can be sure of is that it has touched everyone’s lives in some way…

I was at work (in the quarry, having finished driving fulltime the year before…) and had just come into the workshop for some spare parts because of a breakdown. There was a small tv/ radio combination on the bench and one of the guys had heard something on the radio about a plane crashing in New York so had put on the tv… We stood there watching in total disbelief whilst it all unfolded before us - three grown men with tears in their eyes!

As has been said before, it certainly puts things into proper perspective!

RIP

i was in tenerife on a lads holiday, we were all still drunk and thought it was a movie on local tv

till one of the lads realised :open_mouth: also my last proper holiday

i was delivering in lozells and handsworth, birmingham in a rigid. i was listening to mark and lard on radio2 when they stopped the music with the news bulletin. birmingham came alive with police sirens as the authorities rushed to perceived targets… i didn’t see any footage until i got home at 18:00 and just watched in disbelief.
