I was still at school (possibly year 9 as it was a half day and exams were in the morning) when one of the fellow teachers was discussing it with the mother who is also a teacher.
To be honest I was young and unaware of a world outside of the shores of this country so didnt know about the World Trade Centre. I still remember turning on the tv when we got home and seeing the repeats… I seemed like a horrific movie, it didnt seem like an actual thing that was happening.
From what followed on from that day, my eyes were opened to the world outside of our country, I gained even more respect for our service personnel weather that be armed forces or emergency service as well
exams in september? your school were a bit harsh!!
No that was just a strict household!! Like I say I seem to remember it was a half day possibly exams or exam practice.
i cant remember where i was at the time but the wife was on the phone to tell me what had happened and as she was talking the second plane hit as she was watching the news we knew then it could be no accident it changed the world after that terrible day
Was still in primary school at the time so didn’t have a clue what was happening. Got home to find my mum watching it on tv. I saw the second plane crashing into the second tower Was certainly a quiet few days after.
I was going to see my Mum & Dad as i was over from the Isle of Man working on removals and had finished all my deliveries early. So had it in my head i would have a nice bath and dinner with them before starting the next day.
I turned the radio on and Mark & Lard were on then i heard the news a strange sureal moment i got to the parents house and turned the tv on and just sat there in silence a very sad day
I’d picked my mum up early that morning from heathrow, she had been visiting my brother in the US.
When we got back home I went to bed, was woken up by my mum shouting about terroists attacking the US and it was on the telly. I thought ‘die hard’ was on and she had got it wrong.
Came down watched the telly for about 12hrs non stop.
My mum was on the flight before flight 93
I had just finished loading my tanker at Cargills in Bergan op Zoom when I got a text message from my friend Jerry telling me what happened.
I had to be in Zwikau the next day so I just carried on. I listened to the radio the best I could but the reception faded south of Brussels. I never even saw any of the footage until very recently.
I had been away from home for ages but that trip made me realise that it was time to come home and settle down.
I came home from school and went round my grans who said they’ve bombed the twin towers. I asked if they were them things on an advert thinking of something completely different granny said yeah. Neither of us knew it existed until it fell down. Country folk for you I suppose.
At home having a major row with my missus over something trivial. Sky News was accompanying our war of words and the row was quickly forgotten as things came crashing into perspective, literally.
I was 16 and at college at the time, having a bit of a fumble with a young lady in a cupboard in the Physics department, when we both emerged from the cupboard, expecting the hustle of a busy class in which we could disperse un-noticed, the room was deadly silent and everyone was crowded round the TV in the corner watching it unfold, turned up just in time to watch the second plane go into the towers.
Think its about time the yanks got over it all now though, if the rest of the world was to go on about terrorist attacks as often as the Americans do then every day our TV’s would be filled with memorial services. Perhaps they should be? I don’t know. But I know I’m sick of hearing about it 10 years on. But hey, at least I’ve got some happy memories of that day
Can’t remember the girls name though!
I was at home i think can’t really remember, but i can remember there being nothing on the TV apart from the planes crashing into the towers, i know that a lot of innocent people (civilians) where killed and that was clearly wrong, but talk about the media milking it and creating lots of hype as well after the event with their speculations etc that i believe is wrong also
I also do not agree with a lot of what happened afterwards either, as Al Qaeda aren’t the only terrorists it would seem,or liars
And the press & American government are still milking the 9/11 tragedy see linkhttp://tribune.com.pk/story/249838/credible-but-unconfirmed-terror-threat-clouds-start-of-911-ceremonies/ credible threat my A
Just as credible as saddam Hussein having stockpiles of WMD’s
I was driving a rigid for Peacocks, finished unloading at one of their stores in Leighton Buzzard, then drove back to the yard listening to it unfold on the radio.

Hi Waynedl. Must have been post Lockerbie. It is a long time ago and I haven’t worked in the air cargo industry for a long time, but sure it was after the Pan Am bombing. My cetificate ran out a long time ago as well. Think I had level 4.
Also I mainly used to deliver/collect into/out of Manchester although I used to do the occasional night trunk to Heathrow. Blimey, Heathrow’s infamous horseshoe. Bloody pandemoneum on a night down there. Thank god I don’t do that anymore.
Join the club.
I was on for Ware Transport as a night driver, 2 nights Birmingham + all the agents in Manchester, then 3 nights Heathrow agents, god I was shattered.
I was loading plywood at Tilbury docks, I was on for Fergusons then. I got back in the lorry and turned Radio 4 on and it took me a good hour to realise that what was being broadcast was real, and not a very well-staged radio play. A truly, truly hideous day.
News came on Radio 2,as I booked on in Dover for Calais, and a tip in Coca Cola,Dunkirk.Like most people,(a) I thought it was a Cessna,or (b) never heard of the World Trade Centre.I was both!
Then watched it on the boat,or tried to,as the reception is iffy at the best of times.Had a genuine fear, that if, say the UN buildings or EEC buildings in Europe were attacked, would all travel be therefore suspended, and a lot of people stuck away from home for an indefinite period.
Tipping in Coca Cola was a nightmare, because,I believe,as the day wore on from early afternoon,to later in the evening,it appeared to be more an American focused attack, and they are probably the strongest symbol of Americanisation, globally.Tipping time was,I recall 23.00 hrs.I was there early afternoon, and on a very quiet day,had to wait til the appointed time.
Like others, went to bed that night with the radio on,and in and out of sleep.
May their Gods look down on them today, all who perished.
I was coming home from school on the bus and the radio was on. Chris Moyles, who did afternoons then, said we arent having a proper show due to whats happening in America. I can remember the exact location where the bus was when he said it, which is pretty crazy. Came home and watched it unfold on the news for the rest of the day.

If you cannot remember you are either too young or are talking ■■■■■■■■. There were almost 3000 people killed and 9000 injured, all within 100 minutes. This was the worse terrorist attack the world has ever known.
People left for work with their briefcases, sandwiches and flasks and their families did not know whether their loved ones would ever come home again.
Milking it, you were probably still on your mothers ■■■. What else did you want to watch on TV, cartoons?
As for a credible threat today, the British Government and Royal Family are gathered in a memorial garden in Grosvenor Square in London. If that is not a terrorist target I don’t know what is.
Had spent the afternoon out on a lake and remember hearing the news on car radio while drivin back to B&B. It only said “aircraft” so I had visions of a cesna type 4 seater. Still remember turning on TV and seeing the footage of the airliners hitting the towers.
Strange, but I remembered an assembly from my school days when the head spoke about people remembering where they were when they first landed on the moon .Just had that feeling it was one of those moments.
