8'9 Low bridge (Nr A14 Bury) Did i mis-read?

You’ll like this one  Happened when I lived in the UK
There’s a small industrial estate in Redhill, Surrey, where high vehicles have to go in via the quarry, quite a squeeze but manageable even for artics. There is another entrance, but with a low bridge (can’t remember the exact height now). One of our drivers in a 7.5 t took this route, Gingerly entered the estate, with a few inches to spare, delivered a full load, got his paperwork, then drove out, under same bridge, without stopping, :sunglasses: Came in under it, no problem coming out will be the same.

Lighter truck, suspension not laden with load, :unamused: higher vehicle
No need to say what happened next :open_mouth:

Think they 've sorted that, now used to be a pain delivering to pts.You can go in off the A23 now also good for overnight parking.

Ive got one and its a life saver especially if your going to various areas throughout the week and you dont know your exact route…

its not the bridge at needham market is it? just off the a140 junction, which has huge signs telling truck drivers not to follow their sat nav as they cant get through (you wouldnt believe how many went down there, actually you probably would!!)

They actually built an extra slip road for the trucks to get back on the A14

biggusdickusgb:
yes its 9’0"

He is actually delivering a train on a bridge, not just a bridge.

Just noticed at the top right hand side of the pic, at the end of the train carriage, there’s a red flashing light panel (sort you see at level crossings), why didn’t the driver go that way ? :unamused:

cos he’ll get electrocuted by the low power cables

Anyone remember that 'orrible little bridge in Burton-on-Trent, just before you got to Ind Coope’s brewery? About 9’6" IIRC, and if you missed the turning into the brewery (only did it once  ) you were stuffed and had to reverse back blindside over the traffic lights. Unassisted of course 'cos the idle buggers in the brewery just stood there laughing at you!

It’s gone now since they altered the road.

biggusdickusgb:
its between thurrock and purfleet i think, i used to go past that one most days

They must have moved it then, last time I saw it was when it was at Hoddesdon.

i think that was one of those “we’ve had bigger through here than that” moments

i did say i think,
it looks like the one on the left on london rd west thurrock heading toward purfleet

The van driving boys keep us entertained at the ely crossing, we’ve pulled a few out of there. And you’d be surprised at how many wagons hit the power lines aswell. Normally low loaders with tractors. Tractors that have lovely long cb whips on the roof, lol!

Wth the Ely crossing what came first the tunnel or the crossing??

Erm… i’ll pass on that one, i’ll do some investigating. I would think the bridge was first and high vehicles took an alternative route such as down the A10 to Streatham and then along the A1123 to Soham■■?
