800 drivers made redundant

Yesterday 800 LGV drivers were made redundant by…The Army.

That is a lot of drivers to hit the market at the same time.

Am I missing something? 800 redundancies yet JCP and other agencies are advertising for recruitment :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

True. That why I’m volunteering for army redundancy, try and get a 6 month start on the rest. However lads like me, who have enough time served will be coursed up before leaving. Will do DCPC and renew ADR in tanks also thinking doing Cpc international as a back up.

 few posts down is an advert for the Army wanting drivers■■?

That’s what I was getting at Foxstein. I thought it was just me having a thick moment

There’s no such thing as just the actual job of ‘HGV driver’ in the army. They are trained as soldiers first who are just then trained to drive trucks as required in their job in the same way that there’s many other types of job out there that require an HGV licence like the fire service.

It’s probably a government cost cutting idea of transferring regular army jobs to the TA.

There is a trade and job of LGV driver. Yes everybody is trained to be a soldier first but evrybody has a specific trade that they will do for the whole career.

Skids is correct. As I have previously said I’m currently serving and I’m RLC Driver Trade now for
20 years.

I was a RE Driver too, though to be fair I did spend alot of my time hiding in the woods with a DROPS.

Unless that is all the supplies have been delivered and you’re up to your eyeballs in muck and bullets with snipers all around and the guvnor says here’s a gun and a spade get digging and you tell him to zb off it’s not my job. :open_mouth:

Of course not, seems a bit of a troll statement!
But would the drivers have guns? that is the big question at the moment! :unamused:

lol.

Ex-army drivers out on the roads? They`ll have nobody to follow.

Precious little thought of the children here methinks.

They will fit straight in with the supermarket trolley’s (Toscos and Sainsbugs) clogging the motorways up at 80km’s and trying to pass each other for miles and miles on the dual-carriageways    :exclamation: :exclamation:

I thought that’s what Willi Betz was for

Son in law got his lgv c+e through her majesty, mainly cos it was on offer and free.
Now angling for redundancy even though is now WO (not sure if 1or 2 , whichever is the junior)
Never driven a truck in anger (or in other form)before or since doing a two week course and test.
Just glad he isn’t planning on using licence in civvy street.
