8 fire engines?

how many fire service vehicles for one truck fire? and a cost of £2 million?

youtube.com/watch?v=ogDtPvvmX3g

not knowing what the truck was carrying and looking at the severity of the fire is possibly why so many engines attended, also they have limited water onboard and that has to be a factor, I would of said the 2 million figure was a total cost for delays as well as fighting the fire, in lost revenues to the economy, I think the highways agency have a figure per hour of a motorway being shut, in cost to the economy, have a feeling I have heard it somewhere but can’t for the life of me remember :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

Where did the extra zero come from, it jumps 99,000 to a 1,000,000 in a second?

the black smoke may be from some tyres he was carrying??

Fire engines carry a limited amount of water so extra resources will have been needed to tackle this fire.

Ditto!!! From one EFAD to another!!!

Plus the fact the fire spread up the bank into the adjoining field

Yeh when I was on they held 1800 litres, think it’s still the same, could empty the tank in under three minutes with a main line out!!

Agreed eight seems a bit much, however they did get there pretty quick.

Hell of a lot of smoke too.

Plus I would imagine the 2,000,000 would include resurfacing the highway.

Each Fire appliance will carry 400 gallons of water, first couple of appliances on scene would have asked for more.

See what you mean, something amiss there!

Who the hell are any of you to be publicly questioning the fire service and how they chose to deal with any incident??

Just in the same way that it angers me when the general lay public seem to think they are experts in how we do our jobs it angers and embarrasses me when I overhear idiots in our own industry having a go at other peoples work, wether it be as usual Highways, Vosa the Police and now the Fire Service… stick to what you know and stop meddling!

Oh, if only we could have an audible mardy smily…

At least we can all sleep safely in our beds knowing the fire service won’t be on strike on Saturday night.

how on earth do they manage to price incidents like this?
i was watching some programme the other night about ambulances being sent to pick up all the p1ss artists after a night out,and it said it costs £250 every time they are called out.how?
£250? all the paramedics and support staff are being paid whether called out or not,the ambulances and equipment are paid for ,so its just the diesel that has to be paid for every shout surely?

Resource levels are set for the average call out or (CAD) levels and they are at a huge level week in week out due to p1ss artists, regulars, hypochondriacs etc and therefore the yearly spend on providing the service equates to the figure they place on each call out. Without all the nonsense the ambulance service has to deal with then they would be able to cut resources and save money. I am a former ambulance medic and I can tell you I used to attend 8-12 nonsense calls a shift and would only see a “real” job every few days or so. Its a hard one because without the nonsense calls there wouldnt be the same opportunities for people to get into the job but at the same time some of the time wasting at the publics expense is disgusting!

It probably costs about £50,000 to deal with the incident and resurface the road. The rest of the money is to pay the accountants who worked out the cost and to pay for the committee that decided what should be included in the inquiry that that was set up to ensure that all minority groups were included in the report into the incident.

It`s all done to make you feel better about paying your tax :unamused:
I mean, we do get such good value for money.
