75% of accidents

this is off the daily mail web site about the crash on the m6 j15 today would like to see where steve from Stockton on tees gets his facts from

HGVs are the cause for 75% of accidents on the road, we should do as the French do ban them from driving at weekends or give them a tax break for driving between 7pm and 7 am, I’ve drove from Plymouth to stockton on tees which is 385miles in a car for 19 years they have no consideration for other drivers apart from there own

Personally I think 75% of accidents are caused by CAR drivers…!!!

Sorry, troll comment removed, but in my defense the OP hasn’t exactly made it clear who is saying what.

And someone local who makes stupid comments:

With the weather so hot why did the police not get people off at 15 and organise a detour to 14. The other problem at weekends is the BBC radio give out far less traffic warnings. - Jeff74, Preston, 13/7/2013 20:30---------Why do you think the whole of Newcastle under Lyme along with the A34 and the A500 were snarled up with traffic not moving? would it be that everyone was trying to get off at 15?

Erm,hello, the police were bringing traffic off at J15 and diverting them down the A34 to J14,but they could not have acted any quicker,by the time the police were on scene there was already a massive tailback.
As well as s/b motorway traffic being brought off at 15 and diverted onto the A34,some drivers who were obviously queuing back into Cheshire were leaving at J16 and using the A500 to get down to the A34.
With so much traffic at this time of year and given the weather,it only takes minutes for a queue to form, there is no way this snarl up could have been avoided.

About the same time as this accident happened,I was just north of Corley msa when I flagged down a Wincanton driver as I passed him as he had a partially deflated tyre on his trailer, another potential accident?

All statistics like these are crap, HGVs, Cars, Bikes, Coaches etc don’t cause accidents…it’s the human in control of any vehicle that causes an accident.

As traffic slowed down to avoid debris in the road, three motorbikes and a car collided.

We have all seen these groups of motorbikes. They frequently try to weave through the traffic and get very impatient when held up. I wasn’t there so I don’t know, but it is reported that these drivers were in a collision because the traffic slowed down.

Santa:
it is reported that these drivers were in a collision because the traffic slowed down.

That’s what I read and to be honest… that was a comment released by the police - it points to bad driving and less to do with debris… which was without doubt a contributing factor.

The OP made some interesting comments, I would be interested in knowing where the stats came from. But before that, the OP should be aware that there is no such thing as a traffic accident… there are incidents and collisions - no accidents. I’m betting the claim of 75% doesn’t stand up very well to any examination.

All the stats I see talk mainly about younger drivers, drink driving, motorcycles and nothing at all much about hgv’s.

Edited to add: I’ve got it, from the comments in the article. Sorry, if I’d known that I wouldn’t have bothered… not worthy of a comment.

Most incidents should be called On Purposes because most can be avoided, the Accident occurs when someone else causes the damage, thats in my opinion.
saw a really bad one on friday whilst travelling on the M1 north, the truck was on the london bound side, it was parked on the hard shoulder and was one of Waberers ( ex Hungarocamion) the cab was hanging off, the middle of the cab had a huge indentation in the middle, and each side of the cab was wrapped around it. The trailer was stoved in at the front, with the headboard facing rearwards.
The radio reports stated it was a 5 vehicle pile up, that was at J7, further up ( london bound again ) was a car which had demolished the front of his car, and parked it on the slow lane, i would have hated to have been southbound that evening.

Steve is quite clearly retarded & has never driven a truck in his life.

I don’t comment on whatever Steve does for a living as I quite clearly more than likely know nothing about it.

Stevie Wonder Troll
HGV’s aren’t even involved in 75% of accidents so how can they be responsible for them. The HGV doesn’t appear to be responsible this one either.

I dont believe the poster is totally stupid, because I actually agree with this part of his post, and it should go further and include bank holidays.

The thing that got me about what Steve wrote is, one what a load of rubbish. two how do we as a industry move forward when a large part of the car drivers fill like Steve does. I understand that people fill uneasy around us due to the vehicle size but there seems to be a lot of hate toward us based on rubbish like this

I think he got his stats wrong, I’m sure its 75% of people are made by accidents.
