Is it worth starting to drive now with 7 points or would i be safer waiting to next year to there all away.
Just got my hgv a few weeks back and dont no what to do now can get work but is it wise?.
Is lorry drivers getting many penalty points now a days?
If you’re in work, even NON HGV work right now then stay there, because there is naff all work with the agencies unless you’re in a busy area.
Next year you’ll have had your licence a year even without experience and a clean licence. This year will be hard with a fresh licence, points and little work, but you’re call.
Are you working right now?
hi, i had 6 points on my liencse when i started my lgv training, had 3 removed on jan this year, still have 3 which will be removed by augs, dont know if you know but they stay on your liencse for 4 years, im still doing my last part of my lgv training, i should have no points by the time i start work, some lgv companys accept up to 6 points on your liencse as long as its not for dangerous driving, reckless etc, hope this helps, dave,
No haven’t been working since march since i come home from New Zealand/Austraila was driving trucks out there. I was thinking of buying my own lorry and drawing trailers for sealane they will give me work. I’ve saved up enough money to buy a decent enough unit and insure it for the year thank’s to all the harvest work i have done. It’s probable the only option i have? cause don’t think any firm would take me on with 7 points?

Correct although they’re only valid for 3.

I’m sure as you know - you will still need your own driver’s insurance and it may be sky high because of the points.
Try here though: adelaideinsurance.com/lgv-insurance/ - not sure if they actually do insurance for HGV vehicles too but definitely for HGV drivers…
Yea £6000 for my first years insurance and that includes (GIT) steep i no but ■■■■ it have to start somewhere.

Don’t forget all the other costs and legal requirements - standard ‘O’ licence (which requires a qualified transport manager), operating centre, tachograph download gear and company card if you have a digital tachograph vehicle, insurance, fuel, repairs and maintenance.
tachograph download gear wouldn’t be a major thing would it? I have taken into account the rest!

It doesn’t have to cost that much - and there are options that only involve a one-off cost.
We covered this topic recently. If you start with this post and follow the links, hopefully you will find what you need.
I’m glad to hear that you’ve thought the rest through - there are some prospective owner-drivers that don’t take account of the need for an ‘O’ licence and all that entails.
