7.5 or 18 tonne

Ive got the chance to put a 7.5 tonne truck on the road delivering brand new motorbikes in crates all over the UK. A full load will only weigh about 1500kg so a 7.5 tonne truck will do it and as a lot of the deliveries will be to private houses it would be easier to get around. My question is, does it cost a lot more to run an 18 tonne truck than a 7.5 as back loads may be easier to get for an 18 tonner.(road tax, fuel, running cost etc) Ive looked at 12 tonne but there is not a lot of choice out there at the moment. Also what are the best 7.5 tonne trucks around, I would like to have a high cab as I will be driving it and want to spoil myself

Personally Id go for a 15 tonner. £200 to tax it, and cheaper to insure. And plenty of good ones to choose from !

7.5 tonners are a dying breed now they limited to 56 mph daf lf a very good little truck

The + side for a 7.5 is there are a lot of weight restrictions around and as I will be delivering to private houses they are easier to get through housing estates etc. I have been looking at the Daf LF and Iveco Eurocargo any comments on either of these?

How about a transit & trailer type flat bed, would not be much different area wise and the weight you mentioned would be well within the scope. And no O license to worry about just a tacho. Unless the rules have changed.

This bloke managed very well, when he collected a bike from me, he had about 30k’s worth of top end motorbikes in the trailer, he towed it with a sprinter that had a bed and kitchen in it.
