Harry Monk:
But why would anybody want to work a 15 hour day even once, let alone six times on the trot?
This is a job for eastern Europeans and I guess the reason they are advertising here is that their regular supply of third-world mugs is drying up.
You could be right there Harry. I had these thoughts but didn’t want to start an EE debate right at the beginning. But as mentioned in other “Job offers” from certain companies it looks like that
a) quite a few of these “third-world mugs” like you call them, going elsewhere to work
b) these advertising companies can’t even keep them happy because they get better conditions in their country or at other UK hauliers
But like Beaver said, the job is crap.
@Beaver
Is this salary for the amount of hours, shift pattern, kind of work > “normal” for your area. Or are they similar companies or bigger hauliers paying better around you?
You said this is not far from you.

Yeah, North West is generally pretty crap for truck driving wages TD
The bigger firms offer between £9 - £10 per hour for Mon - Fri general haulage. ( Malcom’s £9.14, Downton’s £9.75, Keedwell’s £9.75, Maxi £9.65, Stobarts works out at around £10 and bizarrely one of the best payers ).
I’ve come off Mon - Fri work for that reason mate. Own account work is often the best way to go, but AVOID salaried positions whenever possible in the North West (and anywhwere else for that matter…) 4 on 4 off seems to be getting more popular in the NW but I couldn’t comment on any other region mate.
Socketset:
And of course, when ya six days is up you’ll have to drag all yer kit out the cab for mug No 2 to use.
And since when has an allowance been regarded as a wage…oh no, forget I asked that
Maybe you work the 6 days, and then get replaced on any old trumped-up excuse - thus avoiding the need for issuing any pay for the week ending that last shift worked…?
But seriously, don`t some nurses have to pay to park at some hospitals?
Not just nurses, staff in general need to pay to park.
The cost is a % of your salary.
Disgraceful if you ask me!!! I bet American nurses and doctors don’t have to pay to park their cars at work. Why? Yeah, because they respect civil servants that properly contribute to society. The same as their military personnel are proud to wear the uniform and wear it in public. Here we are almost embarrassed to have a military and keep it hush hush. We really need to get over this embarrassment at our colonial past.

American doctors and nurses are not civil servants, they are employed by the hospitals they work for which will be funded by billing insurance companies or patients massive sums for treatment, the US has a major issue recruiting nurses as the working conditions are so crap.
