6 years of pondering

Hi all,

So I registered on the forum 6 years ago and still haven’t taken the plunge.

I’m quite an honest and open person so I’m going to be completely blunt here.

I’ve always loved driving, I want to drive for a living but don’t particularly have a huge interest in the haulage side of HGV driving. What I’m interested in is recovery work. I understand that as a newbie I’ll need to take whatever work I can get my hands on but ultimately I’d love a career within the recovery sector.

I’m at a point in my life where I’ve been stuck in my current job for over 9 years in an office, I’m climbing the walls. My college qualifications from back in the day were all engineering based and I always planned to work in a physical job, but ended up in a call centre job that I’m fed up with.

Last year I unfortunately found my dad dead in his house, since then I’ve really been of the mindset that life is too short and I need to get my arse in gear - I’m nearly 30 now and just want to find a career to settle into for life, and I feel like working as a recovery driver would be right up my street.

Financially, I could just about scrape enough together to do both class 1 and 2 - it’s just a lot of outlay to potentially go wrong and still end up with no work. I’ve already had my medical and got my provisional.

Someone with some wisdom - what do I do? I’m really not sure where to turn with it.

Thanks in advance

Jordan

I get that you want to specialise. I think the best advice is to approach local recovery companies to see what the prospects are. Then you can make an informed decision.

And, of course, if you decide to train, I’m here to help.

Take care, Pete

not done any Recovery work myself, but i’d presume you’d need some lorry mechanical skills.
