New Driver, Just collected the Truck after it had a 6 Weekly Safety Inspection. The report showed the Truck as having the following marked as ‘Requires Attention’ and reported to the company.
VTG6A plate missing from the cab
Slight play in first axle calipers, front and rear disc retainers corroded but still intact.
Steering drag link ball joints developing wear but ok at present.
Centre main suspension air bags perishing but ok at present.
Oil filler tube weeping at the sump.
Also had a driver daily checks defect saying the front n/s brake chamber/caliper was loose and rattling.
As far as I know none of these defects have had any preventative attention or been repaired. The company want me to drive it… what do I do?
Check to see if the VTG6A plate is really missing or just secured somewhere not immediately apparent like inside an external locker or the back of a sunvisor.
All the Inspection defects are serviceable. The caliper and chamber being loose is VOR and needs looking at immediately.
How has that not been picked up on Inspection? Unless of course the driver has mistook wear in the caliper bushes as it being loose? Seems likely given defect number 2.
Just my opinion of course.
It’s a shame you can’t go and ask the boss! That way they know you’ve read the PMI sheet and at least considered the items.
Considering the min plate is usually secured, what do driver or their passengers do that makes them disappear so,often!!
Otherwise, they’re monitor items.
What worried me was according to the DVLA sample of a saftey inspection, the ‘R’ means ‘repairs required’ as opposed to ‘monitor’ or ‘satisfactory’
Also the fact that another driver has reported the front brake as being ‘loose and rattling’
I refused to drive it but believe it’s still in service!
