this is a rule i have recently spotted on a wall but i have no idea where they have gained it from. a break is no less than 15 minutes and a split driving break, while does not relate to this, must be a 15 then 30. i have never seen 20 minutes as a specific time under any rules for a break.
oddly enough this place seems to have a very high number of infringements, the highest being WTD infringements
What breaks am I entitled to under the working time regulations?
The Working Time Regulations 1998 state the following provision for rest breaks at work and time off:
Rest breaks at work
A worker is entitled to an uninterrupted break of 20 minutes when daily working time is more than six hours. It should be a break in working time and should not be taken either at the start, or at the end, of a working day.

âThe working Time Regulations 1998â state that an adult worker whoâs working time is more than 6 hours is entitled to a break of no less than 20 minutes.
Thatâs the general Working Time Regulations though and doesnât concern the RT(WT)R 2005

As drivers we donât work to the âWorking Time Regulations 1998â we work to the âRoad Transport (Working Time) Regulations 2005â.
Well those of us who have to do anyway
A lot of companies allow you to take 20 minutes if you split the break so maybe it was just what they reccomended rather than what they see as rules regarding the wtd? I think personally we should just be allowed to look after our own tacho and that way there would be less infringments. What gets me is some drivers cant seperate company policy from actual tacho laws!!
DHL add 5 minutes to breaks and reduce by 5 for driving/working time but make it clear that it is 5 minutes adjustment to the legal requirement to allow for the tachos fiddling with 2 minutes here and there. this particular sign does not make it clear though and appears to show that 20 minutes is necessary at 6 hours even though most companies say its 30 minutes (+5 for DHL)
