Was speaking to a driver the other day who said he made 50k last year class 1, working for dhl (i think he said)
My question- was he taking ***** , or is it really possible to make this kind of money driving lorries?

Taking ***** obviously, I just turn and walk when I hear this type of BS, bad mannered I know, but so is insulting your intelligence.
7 or 8 years ago a couple of truck-mixer o/d’s i worked with were earning 40 grand plus.
I guess that theoretically it should be possible, when I finished working 10 years ago class 2 tipper driver’s at certain local companies were earning over £23.000 gross (£8 grand more than I was earning doing much the same job!) but the current economic climate may have had a downturn in wages? Car transporter men were always on top money so I would easily believe it from them, but dont know about DHL.
Pete.
I would imagine the other Carryfast would earn much more than £50,000 a year due to his vast knowledge of everything .
I think it depend if said driver was an owner driver or not, and what sort of rates he was charging, having said that even if an owner driver ‘makes’ 50k in a year it would be mad for him to draw that profit as a wage. 50k net profit is very achievable if you are a hard working owner driver on the right contracts and are careful.

It is possible he was telling the truth !
DHL - could have been a petroleum tanker driver !
I recall that back in 2008 Shell drivers were pushing for a wage rise that would have put them on £48,000 per annum average.
The guy who delivered Glycol chemical to my old plant was on about £45 grand a year. Its amazing how little you guys get paid to what I thought, you deserve more definitely been away and working long shifts, I bet 90% of you work harder then me with less time off. Makes me a little bit glad I didn’t go for my license when I was thinking about it.
I work for DHL on one of their more lucrative contracts and our trunkers are the highest paid in the fleet and they earn nothing like 50K. If he had said 35K his story in belivable but at 50K ask him when the pigs will be ready for take off.
Cliff
I think people who make that sort of money generally don’t blow their own trumpet. I occasionally drive coaches and am paid £60 a day. Other drivers brag about what they can get - no need for me get involved in their competition.
Yes it is possible he is probably working on the Morrisons or Asda contract driving a Tanker i know some one on there as his basic is £46000
Hiya i was on 30k 10 years ago plus exes. a job i do now would pay 50k a year but only runs on a part time basis like 13 weeks
and your finised for 3 maybe 4 years. this year is a good year if i do it…

I’ve already posted that I thought petroleum tanker drivers could in theory hit £50K per annum.
I suddenly recalled that tanker drivers delivering printing ink to the print [mainly newspapers] industry were always paid in excess of what petroleum tanker drivers earned !
Unfortunately I cannot recall the name of the company that was based in Milton Keynes & drove Volvo’s !!
Drivers on there [if company still exists] would nowdays be on £50K + I would assume !!
Well in 1957/8 I was earning £19.19s.9.pennies, that was for what was called a full house, now then if i made more than that it was carried over till the next week, so If I had a bad week my wages were still the same, So now lets compare say £20,00 POUNDS then near to a thousand a year to to-days wages. Does it equate, Thank you Larry
