5 fire engines,20 men to rescue a cat up a tree

It is true, with Sussex Fire Brigade,it is for health and safety reasons,in case the owner tries to get the cat,but in this case they did not, what a waste of tax payers money, some say it is for training reasons. It was on radio 2 today, on the Vain programme.
What wrong with shooting the cat down with an air pellet gun,job done, teas all around.

Saw one on the telly once on Real rescues or similar where there was a cat on the roof. The Animal welfare firefighter was there along with a crew or two but they couldn’t get it. In the end they got the ALP there!

this story has been over egged
i see it it has public relations coupled with
low risk training with equipment

and a bit of a jolly for the boys & girls

I live fairly near a fire station & see a couple of firefighters down the local. Even they say the job isn’t as busy as it used to be - one of them put it down to fewer chip pans (a great source of work in past years), drugs (kids who previously got their highs from arson have found new stimulations), and improved materials in housing & furniture. They say most of their time is spent on ‘training’, together with going around to schools, pensioners & the like, passing on safety advice. I remember last year my mother in law needed a new battery in her (fire service provided) smoke/CO alarm - they sent a fire engine, with full quota of firemen, to do the job, ok they may have been doing it while passing, but I’m not so sure…

You ever seen a dead cat in a tree anyone? I got collared in to getting one down for a mate of mine on Christmas morning. Fireservice said they wouldn’t come out so my mate got me to.
No problem as I’m a former tree surgeon. This cat had been making loads of noise so all the neighbours wanted it down.
When I got back down with this cat inside my jacket I got a round of applause from the crowd that had gathered, a couple of bottles of beer and several large whiskies!
Made me feel like a hero for about 20 minutes.

Isn’t it easier to put a tin of tuna on the floor. That usually inspires the cat.

A well aimed house brick usually does the job as well!!

Trouble with cats is they can’t climb down stuff as their feet aren’t set up for it (well they are, but only if they went down backwards  ). They can jump down stuff of a sensible height in a controlled manner, but tree branches vertically are often too far apart so they ■■■■ themselves and howl instead. Probably would come down if left to it, but a high risk of it not landing right on the branch and then falling to its death.

My mate’s cat climbed to the top of his conifer tree (slightly taller than his semi house) and wouldn’t come down. Had to climb up and rescue it. I wasn’t there to see it, but ■■■■ knows how he managed to climb a conifer :astonished: . It wasn’t a pleasant experience from what he told me of it.

I don’t understand how it’s can be classed as a waste of money since they are been paid to drink coffee and play snooker at the station they might as well be playing with kitty up the ladder. Target practice with the hose if all else fails.
