45 min break

If you thought you might need a ten hour day with two breaks, then the first break would HAVE to be more than one hour after starting.

Not necessarily, you could take three breaks or breaks totalling 3 x 45 minutes.

Why would you need 3 lots of 45 mins   Ithought 2 lots of 45 mins would suffice for 10 hours driving

Not if your first driving period was less than 1 hour (as said).

What, like my example above Rog!

Becasue if you took the first 45 before your first hour driving you couldn’t complete the other 9 hours something without another 2 periods of 45 breaks.

Think about it ROG, if you took your first break after say 15 minutes and wanted to then drive a ten hour day you would require 2 more 45-minute breaks.

I see - the first break was before the first complete hour of driving

Mr.Shep:
Thats what i thought as i’ve never read any different. However some folk at our place say you cant register a break till you’ve completed one hours drive.

I see the MMTM’S are still alive and kicking and the very reason for Neils avatar.

Smart Mart:
drive for 4 hours - 45 min break dive for 3 hours, or any other combination of driving hours - 10 hours total.

And what if you forgot your Scuba Gear?

E & EO excepted!

why not use p o a ? and use a break as you need it later as p o a rolls it on.

Mr.Shep:
one driver reckons he was even told this on a course

On a course of none prescription drugs, i think.

Mr.Shep:
Can you take a 45 minute break before you’ve completed an hours driving and then drive for a further 4 and half?

The way it used to work, you could actually drive for a minute, take a half hour break, drive for another 4hrs 29mins, have 15mins break, then drive another 4.5 hours, therefore driving nigh-on 9 hours with 15mins break! If that was what floated your boat, which incidentally it didn’t mine! I gather 15min breaks are out now though, unless that was another myth?

15 minute breaks are NOT out, but the break that resets your 4.5 hours must be at least 30 mins.

Which means you can do the extra long if you do it this way.
Drive 5 mins, 15 min break, 4h25min driving, 30 mins break, 4.5h driving.

Ah, I see, cheers Alli. I assume it was adjusted for that very reason then, makes sense.

Drive for 4.5 hours? are you mad? :unamused:

It’s surprising how quickly 4.5 hours driving goes by if your busy.

Why confuse breaks with poa at all?
