Can somebody please explain why Freshlinc,Fowler Welch etc, etc, plod along the A17 @38 mph with miles of traffic behind them and then when at the Sleaford bypass dual carrIageway crack on at 56mph so trucks still cant pass.
If you are sticking to the law guys THE LIMIT IS 50 ON A DUAL CARRIAGEWAY and let the law breakers past!!!
Regards.

This question has been asked a few times on here and I don’t think any good reason has been forthcoming,
I agree, it is frustrating for those who deliberately want to speed (I can’t work out why they want to though) - however, if I was being tailed in a 40 limit and a dual was presented to me, I would welcome the opportunity to let those tailgaters get by.
From experience i can tell you there is a speed camera on this raod and there is a sensor high up to catch trucks etc i now have three points so i assume Fowler Welch drivers know this , i canot remember the exact spot where the camera is i got my points doing 45mph, if you see the camera look up just before it and you will see the sensor it is up high on a post
As Rog said, although its breaking the law, it is really frustrating after being stuck behind a 40 for so long only to still be stuck behind it on the limiter.
Its especially frustrating when that truck at 40/56 is the difference between getting home or not,
So come on guys, if you have a line of stuff behind you on a 40mph road, give some a chance and let them pass you on a DC.
The camera concerened,is at Leadenham,at the bottom of the hill on the approach to the A1,and there are 3 outside of RAF Cranwell.
I had a similar instance yesterday after leaving Sainsbury’s at Hoddesdon.
The shortest route from there to the A1 is via Stevenage, along the A602,and my friend and I were being held up by a Sainsbury’s truck doing 22mph in places.
Now correct me if I’m wrong, but if you were to travel at that speed on your test, you would be failed for not making enough progress,so why did he have to travel at that speed, when road conditions were good, with good visibility, and a speed limit of 40mph?
While I agree that limits are there for a reason, whether you like them or not,why deliberately hold people up,when you are travelling at speed a long way under the limit? Surely it can be more dangerous, given certain circumstances?
Ken.
Try getting past a 409 First bus as it goes from Oldham to Ashton u lyne town centre at 17mph. Then when it stops at a bus stop, goes in at 45degrees, and leaves it’s rear offside stuck out in the traffic stopping traffic getting passed. morons, bus drivers.
Some trucks show 56mph when they are actually doing 52mph.
Therefore they could be showing 40mph when they are doing 38mph.

We’ve got the same thing up here with th A9 Perth - Inverness, Credit though to some of the trolley dollies ,they will pull over and let the queue clear.
I think the problem stems from the " I’m alright jack , stuff everybody else " attitude that we seem to have in this country now.
Now nine times out of ten it does’nt really bother me because i’m not usually that tight for time but it allways seems to be the one time I am in a hurry you catch one of these tossers.
The other problem that this causes is the fact that a car will not sit behind a truck doing 38-40 mph and will take a lot more of a risk trying to get past, there has been countless number of accidents because of this.
You would only need to travel on the A9 once or twice to witness several suicidal overtaking attempts.
IMHO there are plenty of opportunities to overtake a truck doing ‘38’ on that stretch of the A17. What usually is the problem, is motorists who will not take those opportunities - most of which are cars (60mph), but are shy!
Also I have to say that if you don’t to stick to the speed limit, you can always pull your fuse on the dual carriageway, and cream past at 70! Joking of course!
VOSA have been taking a keen interest in hauliers whos drivers exceed the speed limit whaen they are starting or finishing their journey and the roads are all single carriageway national speed limit for quite a few miles before and dual carriageway. So I guess thats why they travel at the speed limit. Its easy to exceed the speed limit when you are well away from your start/finish point, as no-one can actually say where you were when tacho’s are checked. However there is absolute proof of infringement if speeding occurs within the start/finish places written on you tacho - with digital a possible exception I know.
Why dont you just sit behind it and obey the law?.
Whats the point of darting in and out looking for somewhere to voertake getting stressed only to get stuck behind another and then get to the next roundabout and find the guy smiling in your rear view mirror as he pulls up behind you (3 points lighter and £60 better off) with a big grin on his face.
SOmetiomes you can do 56 somedays its 40 so what!!! live with it.

Ain’t that the truth !!
There have been two shropshire hauliers, to my knowledge, suffered the same scrutiny by the VOSA. It ain’t worth the risk to the O license to be caught doing something that you are on a final warning for.

Thats a bit of a generalisation isnt it?
Theres maybe a 100 reasons why the back end is sticking out but normally its some muppet parked (illegally) in the bus stop…
Oh and Im one of those “morons”…
blonde moment
Just to fuel this further…
There is one thing that does get up my nose…
NSL single carriageway, one LGV decides not to overtake another and sits behind it with no safe gap for cars etc to overtake and land in between them - there are opportunities for cars to safely do the ‘leapfrog’ but they are not allowed to by the second LGV - WHY
There - I’ve had my little rant

next time your on A17 and you have one of these wallys coming out of a layby or juction relax hold him up by doing 35 mph then slow up even more on the top or bottom of leadenham hill i am sure he will have a sweat on happy trucking
I work out of Spalding most nights heading up to Lancashire, using the A17 and reason the majority of us do 40 is because VOSA went in to most of the hauliers and asked them to play the game because there is no where within half an hour of Spalding North, south, east or west, that one can do more than forty mph, so said that if folk stick to forty for half an hour either end of the shift then they would turn a blind eye!!! You may well remember knowles/wisbech roadways, nearly all the drivers got done using tachos as evidence because the tachos showed that they where getting straight on the A47 and straight up to 56mph on a single carrigeway. Of course no one really wanted to do 40mph but then on the hand whats the point of speeding up and slowing down for the three cameras over the top by RAF Cranwell, I know its annoying I would love to be able to do 56mph it holds me and the other week I ran out of time four miles from base because I had to do forthy back from Newark. The forty mile an hour speed limit is outof date anyway and should be scrapped it was inroduced years ago, most three plus three artics can stop quicker than most cars.
just by two pennys
When was the 40 speed limit introduced?
So I understand when there was a fuel shortage years ago and was introduced to save fuel, then never taken away!!!

VOSA interfeering again. we all know when you follow someone doing 40 it hasnt got to be a truck could be a caravan there is all ways some one who pulls out from the back of the q sees how far he can get and just barge in chopping you up. this 40 thing is rubbish on a17 it is grately improved road so i do agree the limit should be raised to 50 a more eco speed there is no bunching up and less drivers are willing to overtake. I prob had 6 near head on crashes by idiot car drivers overtaking someone driving slow. I think those cameras at raf cranwell cant differate between a car and a lorry because it calculates how quick you cross the first and second strip in road the third line takes the snap its never had me. The dreaded gatso on Leadenham hill will nab you if you do 51 mph. you never know next time your on this route it could be on fire again.
The question that should be asked is why can we only do 40mph on the A17 and similar roads. It annoys me that we can only do 40 on ‘A’ roads but at the same time we can do 40 in the middle of some towns where there is a 40 limit surely is more dangerous to do 40 in a town than most ‘A’ roads
