Excellent, my work here is done!

JS8576 - You have more confidence than you realise, as you are smart! The only thing missing is to just remember not to give a crap!
(You’ve overthinking thing pal!)

A good job you don’t know where to send invoice for your fee

Its simple I will positively help anyone out if I…

I have to admit i’ve had opportunities to get other skills over the years. Not made the most of them. Maybe i wouldn’t be contemplating going down this route if i had another job that i enjoyed. My motivation is (being a bit of a loner) obvious. The other motivation is money. Most i have earned in my life is minimum wage. Actually come to think of it i don’t think i have worked since the minimum wage was introduced. I am lazy sort of person. If i haven’t needed to work, i don’t.

Left it a bit late to gain skill that would earn me sort of money that can be earned (if you’re lucky) in this business. Can’t work indoors, office etc… so IT not much good for me. Can’t go to college sit in classroom for a few weeks let alone a few years. So driving looks like best option even if some parts of the job will stress me out. Plus it’s something i’ve wanted for a while and would like to prove something even if it’s an expensive point to prove.

But i would say to any young person, unless you really, really want to be truck driver then think about all the other career options open to you. Do better a school, go to college, university, get something that doesn’t suffer from the same numbers of people who are keen to get out the job. Truth is there are even doctors who have had enough and go off and do something else even if it pays less.

Never to late to learn, i know, if i could start all over again i’d love to be a horse dentist working for myself. Alas, training opportunities are very limited and jobs even less so. Cost of gear prohibitive. Even then you are not going to earn much, unless you are a vet in which case you’d be better off sticking to cats and dogs where the big money is.

Maybe LGV would bring me closer to this ambtion albeit on a very small scale. Even if just a few hours offering my services for free to local santuary or riding school (in return for free riding lessons) or to spend some free time with the horses. Not what some of you are thinking.

Alder, You try to be harsh and act bad at times, but underneath you can’t resist being helpful and nice to others!
Best of luck with the job hunting!

CMB82 - Nice input!

Its simple I will positively help anyone out if I can but I am dismayed at the amount of people been squeezed out of other jobs whether it is demobbed from the army or let go with a little redundancy pay and coming into this industry. HGV and PSV driving used to be for people who wanted to do nothing else, that was their passion. It used to be a good job as you got paid a good rate for putting up with the terrible unsocial hours and missing out on home life with your loved ones. But in the last few decades it has become a stop gap for people on the way to the dole office. A lot of people are desperate and so come here as a last resort and I think that is a big mistake. Employers are taking on any newbie and shoving them out on runs that in the past you would have been eased into. OK those forced to take this job because they have no option I can understand but when people post utter rubbish like I have a trade or I am university and I FANCY a job been a trucker it gets me wound up and I tell them the truth whereas the bellends who have been driving all but 5 minutes and are in love with their truck and think it is the best job in the world are giving these people very false and dangerous advice. If these people are that gullible to pass on a chance of a lifetime having a profession or a trade it is not only going to ruin their life but also their young family if they have them. I will always advise them not to throw that chance away for this.

Yes WALLY, but unlike you , Alder can and will put together a cohesive and rational argument/explanation of his opinions. And he also doesn’t feel the need to add bitterness and anger regarding the industry in his posts. Pity you can’t do the same… :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

Oh I am bitter :unamused:
