No, it wouldn’t.

Also, it’s only four hours and not seven.

Seems to be yet another advert full of bs requirements which as usual proves that there’s no driver shortage.Although that’s the type of advert which is likely to produce one by ( rightly ) putting off new potential drivers thinking of entering the industry. :unamused:

In order to justify his job the companys H&S manager dreamt up this load of tish

probably just a standard supermarket type induction/assesment.i doubt the written part is actually 4 hours long…it will be the whole thing.
i did one for wilko, which was about 4 hours long.

In addition to that bs is the two years experience requirement. So as usual it’s all about the double standards of wanting drivers with experience while not being prepared to take inexperienced drivers on to get the required experience in the first place. They conveniently always seem to think that’s up to ‘other’ employers not themselves to sort out while no surprise all those ‘other’ employers have the same requirement. :imp:

In an economic recession every employer expects another employer to fork out for training because the training budget is usually one of the first things to go

I was thinking more along the lines of throwing a new driver the keys and telling them to get on with it with training provided on the job in the usual old fashioned way of learning by mistakes and some helpful advice by the experienced drivers as and when required.Which is how most ‘experienced’ drivers got their experience.Everything else is just pc bs or effectively keeping the job a closed shop for experienced drivers at the expense of new drivers being given the opportunities they need to get that experience to start with.None of which has ever involved any issues related to any ‘training budgets’.

seeing as it is an agency, are you being paid for the 4 hour written and driving tests?

who says there’s a driver shortage? we’re not in 05 anymore!

i don’t see it as bs or double standards, generally unless they’re a charity, then they’re not a charity. it’s also not about thinking it being up to other employers. it’s simply if they can pick and choose their drivers because there’s more of them than jobs, why take a chance on a newbie when they can have the pick of the experienced fellas with proven history?

and when they don’t have loads of people after a job with them then the 2 year experience will be relaxed

and when they can’t get anyone, they’ll take people from a car to class 1

although some firms choose to go down the newbie / less experienced theory of molding them into doing it how they want it doing as opposed how someone has always done it.

common sense to me.

Just sat a refresher induction course for Major transport company (no names no pack drill but the don’t usually have red lorries) Even though I’ve worked for them over the past year all drivers (both their own and agency) must resit the induction every year. Given a big wad of papers on company policy and the ol’ Elfin Satey with some questions. The trick was to ignore the information sheets and just answer the questions. Multi choice. One obvious, one probable, two stupid answers to choose from.
Then a couple of filums on how to hit bridges and turn trucks over. Once a truck returned we had to each go out for a 45 minute test drive, As I was first to turn up I claimed first go and was told to choose my own route, as it was by then rush hour it was out the depot, sit in a queue for 10 minutes, turn around and sit in another queue back. For once the agency paid me 4 hours to do this but normally it’s a non payer, (you want the work you gotta do it) but even so I missed out on a days work as tacho card was obviously used.
