Because it is my view that:

'…Apart from physically conflicting with other road users, that’s a sound suggestion [ie, to indicate left] and occasionally works for me too: It signals ‘intent’ - which is what many of us would have even if we’re actively being denied it.
It also communicates to those following what we’re intending/wishing/wanting to do and often illustrates to them what a muppet the speed-up miscreant is…’

But, at the time I didn’t wish to get too chopsy on this issue which - given their skint-ness, poor maintenance of decent driving standards alongside ambivalent & liberalised attitudes - neither Plod nor Government is too arsed about.
