this morning I got politely ‘told off’ about something by the transport manager (well not told off I am joking )
he pointed out to me I did not ‘fill up with diesel at the end of my shift the other day’ … I must have used 2 drops of diesel as I did almost f.all! But most importantly I was not told I had to fill up religiously at the end of each shift…as the fuel gauge still showed a full tank I did not think I had to…
the driver who used the unit after me wrote on the defects book: ‘how about filling it up after you’ve used it??’, I thought ‘crickey you lot are a bunch of fussy people, I mean haven’t you got anything more important to worry about?’ how about the in-cab ‘height’ indicator which was faulty/not working at all and not reported by anyone? (I reported this btw).
Still, now I’ve been told and I will fuel up every shift even if it’s 0.3 of a litre!!!
I had the same duty as 2 days ago so it went much better (for most of it!)
what I don’t understand:
how come 2 days ago I reversed onto the bay at Mount Pleasant in 5 minutes and today it took me 25■■? (yes TWENTY-FIVE B****Y MINUTES!)
I almost cried ‘I want to go home’ as it’s not a difficult reverse…but had to grow up and get it done
after that it all went ‘ok’.
I have to say I would not like doing this type of job as a full time job…my heart is in tramping and that is what I would like to do…I love driving for hours on end (within drivers hours rules of course ) not one hour then unload for half hour then drive an hour then exchange trailers then load for half hour, then drive 10 minutes then unload for half hour (you get the drift…) I find it rather ‘boring’ LOL but each to their own, equally there is plenty who would hate tramping
so here we go, am getting there, slowly but surely and all the nice people at RM are helping me by answering all my questions (and I have asked many!)
Keep those updates a comin’…
All invaluable stuff for those starting out.
Know exactly what you meant on Day 1 when you talked about being able to manage the driving (well, kind of ) - but just not knowing how a firm ‘works’. And to be honest, that is the essence of most jobs. The quicker you get up to speed on that, the better/easier life is going to be.

Best of luck,

thanks Jon…
next update will be on 30th of August…another shift with RM but this time ‘different duty’…I hope they don’t send me anywhere too tricky
25 minutes eh, now that’s a target to beat!
And reminds me of my 37 point turn I made in The Range carpark yesterday afternoon when i was told by the staff, all deliveries have to be before 10am when the carpark is quiet! (Bloody planners! )
P.S. Why are the general public such lemmings?
Sorry again, but can’t post more, as I’m out on the beer tonight as it’s my 45. (No, not my age, but bloody close! )

have a good one Evil
yes 25 minutes is quite ‘shocking’!! (well maybe it was 20 but ‘still’!!!)
Thanks for the amusing read, I am pretty sure on my first day/week I’ll be needing a little longer than 25 min to do anything I’m absolutely bricking it, but very determined to make it without ‘accidents’. Anyway, love reading your adventures and can’t wait to write my own… Still waiting for my tacho card

I had something like that, expect the car-park was full of very expensive motors as I was delivering flooring to a very posh fitness centre. Had to reverse around the carpark to get it to the side door where they were replacing the court floors.
