3M hi viz tape question

We just received a brand new 26t MERC actros ridged today, as per new legislation it has the hi viz 3M tape on the back and sides . BUT they coach builder has also put it on the cab doors ?
Is this part of the new law or a over enthusiastic coach builder ?
In my opinion looks bloody awfull on the cab doors !

i think you will find it has to be down the complete side, there was a video on here somewhere a couple of weeks back showing the job being done

Rear of the Vehicle

  • A complete contour line marking (box) needs to be applied
  • The conspicuity marking should be as close as practicable to the edge
of the vehicle and should equate to at least 80% of the overall width of
    the vehicle
  • Red and yellow marking tape only - red is the UK preference.

Side of the Vehicle

  • There are two options: a complete contour line marking (box) or a partial
    contour line marking (corner ticks)
  • Partial contour markings are the minimum requirement
  • The marking tape shall equate to at least 80%* of:
  • for motor vehicles, the length of the vehicle (excluding the cab)
  • for trailers, the length of the vehicle (excluding the drawbar)
  • The length of the upper corner marking tape must be a minimum of
    25cm in each direction
  • Yellow and white marking tape only - yellow is the UK preference
*down to 60% or 40% for difficult or especially difficult applications

Front of the Vehicle

  • It is optional but advisable to use white marking tape on the front of
    the vehicle.

Cheers wheel nut , our guy has selected “partial” probably cheaper option
Still think it looks terrible the tape across the cab doors !
But hey ho if it’s a legal requirement nothing can do .

What the bloody hell is this tape supposed to achieve? To stop people driving into parked wagons in the dark?

What a load of balls.

while its still fresh wouldnt it just manage to fall off one night (with the help of hairdryer/kettle)

I quite like the idea on the back doors, but agree, the cab looks a bloody mess, they should have just stipulated that you had to have 2 side facing marker lamps with reflectors.

They do allow you to drop the size to 40% in difficult areas but it does say excluding the cab!

Think it looks great on the back doors and even on the side of the box , but as I said cab looks poor .
Only hope it doesn’t spread to artic units

we already have this on our newer trailers, looks good on ours, we dont have it on the cab though we have a design that reflects

Our new unit has the tape down the side of it. I will try a snap a photo tomorrow. Its looks absolutely ■■■■■

Our latest rigid has the corner ticks, but not on the cab. Waiting for them to get agrippa in to stick the adverts on the side and cover them up :smiling_imp:

Our new 26t have got the partial on the curtains and your right it looks bloody awfull on the cab
