35 hours DCPC all at once

What on earth do you learn on a 35 hours one week DCPC course? Can anyone tell me. Once you have the Drivers hours, tachographs, (7 hours max at a stretch) health and safety and eco driving (7 hours at a strain) what do you do in the remaining 21 hours? Sensible answers please

You could always try HIAB courses, ADR etc

Idid a basic first aid course that lasted 7 hrs it may come in handy sometime

Work related training, so…ADR, First Aid, Load security, loading??

You learn what the licence categories for mopeds, invalid carriages, lawn mowers, track laying vehicles steered by their tracks etc etc etc are. F,G,J,K or somesuch. I’ve forgotten now.

That takes up most of an afternoon and as I’m sure you will agree, is absolutely essential information for a Heavy Goods Vehicle driver to know to enable him to perform his job safely.

It all depends on if you really want to learn anything. There are plenty of other courses you could do to gain your 35hrs, which can be found by looking on a course providers website.

If it’s just your 35hrs training you want to get your dcpc card, then just do the same course over again to get your required hours in.

Its a very sore subject for a lot of drivers…as is the cost, a lot of mature drivers who have 25 yrs + under there belt find it insulting… just another tax on drivers who are working long hours to pay a mortgage… rent and keep a family.

An ADR+ course can be for 35 hours of DCPC but that will probably cost well over £500

I have seen other 35 hour classroom courses but I’ll bet that for most of the time the drivers will be bored stiff

As it does not involve me[ret] and i know nowt about it when you have done your 35hrs DCPC is that it? or do you have to keep refreshing as in adr.
regards dave.

P.S.Only asking as it does seem expensive.

Thanks for that rog,its a big layout every 5 yrs on top of e/thing else you have to fork out for driving a truck, even more so if you are 45yrs+.

Only done one session so far.

Learned from an expert how to waste 7 hours whilst being paid hansomely for it, bugger all else worth knowing.

I’d have been thoroughly peed off if i’d been paying, a total waste of time and unnecessary expense for the company in difficult times, just what you would expect from an EU directive rubber stamped by the relevent British jobsworths.

I’ve done 3 plus I have an NVQ which doesn’t count :unamused: (Stobarts) I only wish that I had actually been taught something that I didn’t already know!! Ok I was ‘reminded’ about certain aspects but it is a bit silly telling me how to do what I already do the the satisfaction to all the health n safety bods on each site :unamused:

Thank you for your replies, i’m one of those who have been driving 25years+ and yes it is quite insulting to have to pay to be told things that are completely irrelevant to my actual job.
On one day the RHA presenter went into detail about double de clutching and block changing, well most of the younger drivers didn’t even know what doubling the clutch was! Let alone find it of any relevance.
With many new vehicles now automatics, in fact do any manufacturers even make manual boxs now On tractor units?
My next unit is 7 hours on safe loading…can’t wait zzzzzzz…
