£33ph

Keep hearing that Asda Rochdale RDC are paying £33ph on nights, 8hr shifts. Is this urban myth or true, agency or direct ?

Definitely not direct else the union have some explaining to do to the other depots

Just seen its a Wincanton depot, not advertising on their site so if at all true I would say agency bank holiday rate.

Weekday nights, through Staffco agency and others. Higher rates for weekends. Same over here at Normanton. Can’t get any drivers and no subbies left.

…on umbrella, Ltd Company with rolled-up holiday pay included (now illegal btw)

Another logistics/supermarket that believes starting between 23:00 & 03:00 is a driver’s preferred start time.

Easy work on Asda contract at Rochdale, but Wincanton were always advertising for drivers, before the pandemic hit.

I see an ad the other day that actually declared their rate was ‘rolled-up’. I thought they are brave…

Believe or not it is a preferred start time for some drivers. We have many drivers at my depot on those start times that have been on them for years. They are first in the queue to get a change of start time when more “social” starts come up because of their length of service but all prefer to stay where they are. I suppose if you start at 1am you are done by 10am, got a whole day to do as you wish. Go to bed at about 4 and still get a decent amount of sleep. Not for me but its not as hated as you would think.

It’s what I’ve opted for, based on the theory that I’ll be done by lunchtime allowing for a bit of overtime. Earlier if not.

Given the agency that supplies drivers to Lidl at Doncaster and Newton Aycliffe is paying £30/hr on days it comes as no surprise.
