I wonder how many “just missed this one” :stuck_out_tongue:

Was thinking that myself . I remember looking at the ship lying on its side thinking what a ■■■■ way to die in a freezing cold North Sea in December and I was only 15 . My thought are with the 6 that died

Sad thing to happen, and unbelievably that ship is still working in the Greek Islands, she is currently called Penelope.

R.I.P.

Ain’t it strange this this one and her sister ships built around 1975 have found homes and are all still working where as the three newer and not that different Dover- Calais ships could not find new owners and where all scrapped . I understand it was the upper loading deck that was the issue

I missed it by about 15 months, and that was too close for comfort for me.

RIP to all those not so lucky.

I remember seeing it laying there off Felixstowe quite well as it made a lasting impression on a young lad, and if you’d asked when it happened I’d have known it was early 80’s

Seeing that it was 31 years ago is the big shocker, makes me realise how old I’m getting.

Christ, don’t time fly !

It was also on the 19th Dec '81 when the Penlee lifeboat and Union Star disaster happened resulting in the death of 16 people, the master of the Union Star (a brand new ship) had his wife and daughter on board for a trip. RIP to all concerned.
