are these weight sensored on the single carriageway or am i being wound up? i flew through there yesterday at least one way-my own fault i know
Not sure about weight sensors, always thought it was height sensors ( could be wrong ) ! But them cameras will definitely catch a speeding truck ! Around half our fleet has been caught there at 1 time or other !
Yeah I agree, they have height sensors so I always stick to about 40 on the 303 single carriageway sections.
itâs height sensors, not weight sensors.
[zb]ing underhand tactics.
Whatever sensors they have they definatley work, seen a few trucks storming through them and getting flashed, one of our drivers got caught out as well.
The trouble is Itâs a nice road and a mixture of dc and sc so you really have to make an effort to get down to 40 on the sc sections as its quite populated with cameras and/or old bill.

When was this?
I always thought they were weight sensored on the A303â â ?,but they all definately work, especially the one on the steep hill at Chicklade, thatâll have you at 42!!!
if you meran the ones at the top of wyle? one on either side of the road they have been turned off now for nearly a year since the local camera partnership was closed in a money saving exercise. but the police do use a speed camera van in the area he is normally down the bottom of the hill by the A36 split, also the one going up the hill in the 3 lane section at chicklade that one is turned off as well.
the one on ilminster bypass hasnât worked now for over 3yrs i believe there is a power supply fault with it and they are not willing to pay what its going to cost to repair it.
one word of warning though the camera between sparkford roundabout and podimore as you come down over the hill towards what was old camel garage is loaded most of the time and takes a lovely picture even at 4am in the morning with nothing else on the road
AFAIK there are no working cameras on the A303. Just the Scamera vans

Theres 2 of them on the A30 in Roseworthy dip on the SC section near Cambourne in Cornwall that are weight sensored aswel, and ARE loaded and working. Saw a National Express coach set one of them off just a couple of weeks ago.
Edited to say, soz its slightly off topic but its worth knowing as not everyone knows about the weight sensored cameras!

travel up and down the 303 4 times a week seen this camera flash a few times mostly european plated trucks
No sensors, the camera use radars to detect what vehicle and the speed, they send out a radio wave which bounces off the vehicle and returns back to the camera, the stronger the signal received the bigger the vehicle.
The gatso has settings for HGVs and cars as shown in the pic
the HGV speed is set to 87kph and cars 108kph

Our driver got caught a couple of years back on the sc section just after Wylye, the most recent ive seen was a couple of months ago, 7.5t came past me on the hill before it goes from dc to sc and got flashed. Thats the only one ive seen that appears to be working although it might just be flashing and not recording now.
cheers for the feedback people-hopefully got away with it-wont do it again anyway

87 kph (c. 54 MPH) for HGVs is quite a generous âallowanceâ for determining speeding IMHO, assuming itâs set for a single carriageway, whereas 108kph (c. 67 MPH) for other vehicles is less so, but fair enough.

Glad I heard about this as I went by there twice today and wouldnât normally hold up the traffic too much as I go past IYKWIM.

Glad it helped you out snudger
That pair on those steep slopes must make a fortune. I heard of one guy in a truck getting 6 points in one day there once!
Hmm. I would like to test them by driving by at c. 51 MPH in a 7.5 tonner which might still be detected as an HGV, but today was the first time in ages Iâve been by and never in a 7.5 tonner - wouldnât want to go 200 miles out of my way to try it!
Use that road every week Tuesday to Portsmouth and Sunday homeward bound never had a prob while running most of the way at 50mph/80kâs and yes the van does move up and down that road a bit.
