Maybe I’m wrong but my understanding is that if you had a full manual car licence and then took your HGV test in an automatic HGV then that gave you a full manual HGV licence?

I thought that aswell but on the back of my licence 78.101 which is a code for restricted vechicles in the catagory in this case Cat C and Cat CE.

Its a stupid law we have over here I did my car test in a manual did the truck test in an Actros and it was an Auto but I do shunt manual trucks every morning to get in or out the yard.

78.101 is two separate codes - 78 indicates restricted to automatic transmission, 101 shows renewal of that Category is subject to a medical. Strangely, I had always assumed the “codes” were the same in all EU countries - but clearly they are not. Code 101 signifies “not for hire or reward” on UK licences.

if barney o shamrock the guarda pull you, then they will not have a clue what they are looking at inside the cab anyway.
point to the 3 pedals and its obviously a manual to them…light er up and crack on drive.

Suggest the original op either asks Scabbier for a description of the box or downloads the user’s manuals to show plod if necessary.

The codes up to 99 are pan-Europe, but the numbers 100 and up are for the member states to use for their own silly local rules.

I’ve always wondered whether the local codes could (or would!) be enforced abroad. Everyone passing a car test since 1997 gets AM (mopeds) with the UK code 122 (only after passing CBT) - I guess anywhere more sensible would wait for you to do the CBT / equivalent training and only then give you the AM code. On holiday abroad sometimes I’ve contemplated trying to rent a moped and seeing what they say - how hard could it be to ride…

For the OP:

Assuming you are in Ireland, then I’m afraid you’re out of luck. It looks like irishstatutebook.ie/eli/2008 … e/en/print contains the latest version of the definition: you can only drive vehicles without clutch pedals, sorry :frowning:

My advice would be to tell anybody that asks you to drive one, you can’t because your licence says no.
They’re bloody awful!!!
