3 mobile broadband - am I doing something wrong?

having trouble getting a connection in 2G areas

can get a connection of 4-5 kbps ( or 15-17kbps if I use the double usb cable) , but never actually managed to get a working connection

is there a setting somewhere I need to change to get it working on 2G or is it just crap in these areas ?

My daughters Vodafone one works in 2G ( ok I know it’s slow) but my 3 one just won’t even display the google homepage !!

mine seems ok, i just pluged it in and when it finished loading drivers it shows a bar and thats all i had to do.connection was made. im using vista and on ÂŁ10 tarrif,

I’m not supprised you can’t get a connection at those speeds, remember that even dial-up works at about 40-50kbps, if you have wi-fi try that if the connection speed is ‘slow’ you see a message stating ‘no worthwhile connection’.

My 3 dongle works fine, OK its not fast but great for the money…

Im the same, just plug it into teh usb and it auto detects it and installs itself… Depending on teh area that your in it will be very poor reception then hdspa then 3g… Most places I have been, inc NORTH SCOTLAND, it has always worked… I wouldnt try using it for downloads though.

I don’t think you’re doing much wrong. It’s just that when it’s really slow it tends to crap out. All you can maybe do is find a setting to increase the “timeout” of the browser so it gives it a longer time before giving up.

Other than that, try moving around to get a better signal. Some wifi cards have an external aerial socket so you could get a bit more range or better speed. With a USB dongle, put it on an extension and wave it about a bit
