first he hits a roadsign, then a tree, rips up a grass verge then a car on the way out
bet he wished he’d stayed home.

BOLLARDS. that’s the answer… now do I get my million pounds Mr Cameron ?
SAT NAV … Say no more, total waste of time and money
Not surprised after looking at it on street view. The weight limit is for the entire town

Like it! but seriously he would get a start at my place. at that’s no joke.
A satnav is only as good or as bad as the person using it. Its no different from getting verbal directions from a pedestrian or car driver etc, then seeing that the road they’ve told you to go down is totally unsuitable for whatever reason, just because they’ve said to go down it, doesn’t mean that you blindly follow their instructions.
Weight limits are always an odd one though because you dont actually know if the place you want is in the weight limit, on the other side of it and if every road you’ll subsequently come to will also be a weight limit. As a driver of a truck, which you can’t just turn around any where, all you are confronted with is a 7.5t weight limit sign with no other information. None of us have crystal balls and its all well and good for locals to shout the odds, but they know the area, visiting truck drivers do not.
That’s a good advert for: if in doubt, probably better to just stop & have a little rest & a think.

I agree there are places i deliver to and the only access is down a 7.5t limited road but is the only way to the delivery point so have to agree with whats said unless you know a place youve not much of a chance

Probably not relevant in this case, but when a delivery needs to be accessed from a particular direction to avoid a ‘large vehicle restriction’ or it is inside one, then it is time that legal responsibility should also rest with three other persons:
The person placing the order to ensure that the sender or whoever he has to contact to organise a collection, is made absolutely aware that there is a designated route into the premises. This person knows that ‘a situation’ exists and it must become his responsibility to ensure that those needing access to his premises are informed.
The sender requesting delivery or collection of his goods to inform the haulage contractor. This person has been made aware of ‘the situation’ by no 1.
The Haulage contractor to ensure that every driver is made aware of ‘the situation’ and is given a map showing not only the correct route to be used, but also very clearly marked on that map the roads which must NOT be used. This must happen every time a delivery or collection is to be made. This person has been made aware by no 2.
This is not difficult, some companies do this or something similar already.
sometimes you can start going down a road and the weight limit sign appears when it’s too late to do anything about it
I’ve been down many roads that are signed 7.5t only to find they aren’t suitable even for those .Norfolk comes to mind
If one of us did something like that in Euroland, I bet there would be a zillion euro on the spot fine, and everthing.
Just think. If we “fell in line with Europe” on the important issues, we could drive all these flip flop drivers away from our shores once and for all.
Driving is more expensive in the UK, which is why we get paid more for doing it here. That means doing it here should be more expensive for johnny foreigner’s operator as well - at least to take up the slack in what they save running them over here on el cheapo wage packets.
Crikey, old news was in the Kent Messenger last year!,he was most likely heading for D S Smiths at Kemsley Mill (loads of East Euros go there) but done a left off A249 slip road instead of right over the top,Iwade village has chicanes, restrictions & extended kerbs to stop this sort of thing, maybe he fancied a quick pint in the “Wool Pack” ,not far from Chetney View!
