These signs seem to be going up overnight all over London suburbs of late.
Are we going to get tickets by blundering down the “wrong London Trunk Road” soon then?
We already know who’s behind it…

The sooner they ban hgv’s from the dump the better as far as I’m concerned.

Don’t you mean the Safer HGV Zone (mandatory side protection bars etc)? That came in last year and the signs all went up before the zone came in. It’s mostly the same area as the LEZ.
If my boss wants me to deliver into London, that’s what I’ll do. If the vehicle he gave me (which is registered in his name) is not compliant with any of the big smokes stupid rules, that’s his problem.
Happy days.
So what part of the 3.5t limit didn’t I understand, and why are these signs only going up of late, rather than when the LEZ first came in some time ago?
Spotted one on the A12 at Newbury Park… “Not good” if we’re going to get banned from using the “Storm Drain”.
Goods vehicles under 3.5T are not subject to LEZ charges, hence the signs?

Does a haulier pay a subscription? Make sure all it’s vehicles use Adblue? - or is it charged to the firm every time one of their vehicles “runs down a marked road”>

Yes they are. My VW T4 self converted camper was subject to the LEZ charge as it was 2.8 tonnes mgvw and therefore a nasty diesel pumping out filth and bringing death to all those who dared to breathe as I drove past.
Sent the log book away asking for the gross weight to be dropped to 2,495kg (under 2.5t) with no modification to the engine and suddenly it was exempt and spraying lavender scented perfume from the exhaust pipe!
Of course, I wouldn’t imply it’s all a money making scheme…
I wonder if there will be any hauliers left that have not already been skinned to death in a few short years time…

If the truck is newer than 2006 then no charge payable. If it’s an older vehicle then the charge is payable on every day that it is driven inside the LEZ (there are no “marked roads” or “permitted routes”).
You mean these see below .Been up for over a year now.

You can read all about it here tfl.gov.uk/info-for/deliveries- … rry-scheme
Yeh that’s the ones. It’s the bottom sign of the two that I’ve noticed popping up all over the place, as if added to the already-in-place upper sign.
If trucks since 2006 are “not affected” mind, it’s more of a “paperless” deal surely?
“NO vehicles with paper tachos ALLOWED. You have to pay an extra tenner a year for paper.”
Cashier number six please.

As someone said earlier, those signs are nothing to do with the LEZ per se, they indicate that you are entering the ‘safer HGV zone’ which is in the same place as the LEZ. It means that any vehicles over 3.5t entering the area have to be fitted with certain safety features; underrun bars, class 5 & 6 mirrors etc. Most of the stuff I do in London is for Crossrail or Tideway who have far tighter rules anyway so I haven’t paid it that much attention.
Why say they are “Low Emission Zone” signs when the words used on them are clearly “Safer HGV Zone”? A quick Google search (other search engines are available) would have told you all you need to know about them.
“Safe HGV 3.5t” zone is like saying “Safe dehydrated water you cannot drown in”.
Or “Oxymoron” with the O2 taken out.
Just as well they use the word “safer” rather than “safe” then. It’s a comparison rather than an absolute measure…

That’s what I was getting at…
“An axe murderer is safer than a gun murderer”.
Not because you need to be “more psychotic” to use a gun
Not because it needs “more training to use an axe”.
…but instead - There’s more people about with mental health issues that happen to have access to a gun rather than an axe".
I dare say that statistic will flip - should Wilkos and Poundland start selling hatchets for a quid.
Sorry Winseer, you’ve lost me now. What is the point that you are trying to make about “safer HGV zones”?
The point I’m trying to make is "Wot does “Safer HGV zone” bloody well mean?
I’m still none the wiser, despite being OP on this occasion.
It is an area (not just a particular road or roads) where TPTB have decreed that only lorries with specified safety features (ie Class V and VI mirrors and side guards) may be used. The Web page linked to earlier explains all this.
